    Small Kitchen Gadgets

Oma mentioned in Chat that she's been clearing out a larder cupboard and getting rid of some small kitchen items she never uses, like a waffle maker and a sandwich maker.

It's made me think, I bet I've got bits of equipment in the kitchen that we never use. I can't remember last time I used the yoghurt maker, or a blender I've had for years. I really ought to have a good sort out because there are probably other gadgets lurking in our cupboards. I know I've got things like old cake tins, roasting tins and a huge stew pan I haven't used for years. I feel a spring clean coming on. The trouble is I always think if I get rid of something you can be sure I'll need it the following week!

What's lurking in the back of your cupboards that you never use but don't want to part with?

I think we all have stuff Daisy,
We had a 4 set of the orange le Creuset individual pots with lids still in the box never used,
GS is into making pies at the moment so he took them,

We gave all sorts to the man next door who was moving into his own place
Steamer that we had two of , a slow cooker again two of.
A blender and a smoothy maker never used ,

We also had lots of baking tins , and B tends to use the same ones so they went ,
We had a NINJA flat plate to do likes of steak , burgers eggs etc on , only used a couple of times we sold that

It's scary how much you can hoard , you don't think you have till you start clearing .

      A lot!

When OH and I bought this house 15 years ago we both had a lot of stuff to bring.
My ex and DD3 took some of mine, but I still had quite a bit.
We do need to have a purge, although OH often relocates things to the garage if we're not using them.

Gem, I had to smile at the comment about relocating things to the garage. There isn't an inch of spare room in our double garage where I could sneak something in. I relegated some bakeware to the utility a while ago, thinking if I haven't used it after a year I can get rid of it. So far I've only used one cake tin and one roasting tin.

Oma, a lot of people in our road have converted their integral garages into living rooms. My OH wouldn't agree to that in a hundred years.

Over the years i have got rid of several kitchen gadgets. Some were only used a couple of times.
I once bought a steamer and only used it twice, gave that away. Sandwich toaster went with it.
Had a bit of a clear out last year when nephew painted the kitchen cupboards.
Still got a few things i could do with getting rid of.

Thinking about all the space unwanted things take up has given me the impetus to have a clear out! I'm sure I've got things I never use and if I can't even remember I've got them I certainly do't need them.

I think we are all guilty! Buy gadgets etc and hardly ever use them, I have got rid of most that I don't use. I opened the pan cupboard yesterday and decided there are a few pans in there that never see the light of day! IF we have to change to induction the most of them will have to go anyway. Then again, I am just thinking, I have 3 slow cookers!!! The first I bought in York in 1982, it is still is use!

As for the space, I have a huge garage plus a huge shed, I often wonder what the boys will do when the time comes!!! I do get rid of a lot, over the years living here, almost 50, I have "saved" a lot!!!!

Looking for a juice squeezer in the drawer the other day I found small white plastic thing which I have no idea what it is.
I must ask OH. We do have some things from my mum's kitchen when we emptied her house. It may be from there.

Just inspected my gadget drawers ….

                    Oh dear

                    The boiled egg slicer (inherited)
Three gadgets for opening jars which don’t work
A thing for slicing runner beans - doesn’t work
A tiny ravioli tray (too much faf)
A ladle (present from a dear past pupil)
A mandoline - works, but too efficiently as it sliced the top of my husband’s thumb off.
Plastic moulds for butter pats - never used
A blowtorch - too scared to us it
Fancy icing set - needs skill that I don’t have

I can’t really throw out things I don’t use now because as DD and family are next door they come and borrow things they know I have still got so can’t cast them out.

Plant, I agree, they're worth keeping if someone is using them.

When I started this thread I intended to sort out the cupboards in our utility room which have become a sort of dumping ground for little (or unused) items. But so far life has been too busy. Hopefully I'll have some time on Thursday.
