    Central heating temperature

I was wondering at what temperature you set your central heating in winter.

We have noticed we are generally cold in all 3 DDs homes over winter!

Ours is at a minimum of 19 during the day in cold weather. Most often 19.5 or 20. We rarely need to set it higher, but do if we need to.

This morning at DD1's the temperature is 14! I see she has set it to increase to 22 eventually, presumably as I am here. They have the back door open for the cat as no cat door yet, which doesn't help.

At DD2's on Saturday, another very cold day, it was 17. I boosted it to 21 which took a long time as it's a big house. In fact we were warm enough before that so I lowered it to 19.5.
They have a lovely big log burner and when that's going it can be TOO hot in there!

We were cold at DD3's on Christmas Day. I meant to pack a cardigan but forgot. They also have a log burner which we hoped would be lit, but wasn't!

Maybe it's just a sign of age, but we both hate to be cold.

Ours is a steady 20.5 it's keeps the house just right in these cold days
Before we got this new boiler our old one wouldn't maintain the temperature so we could be boiling one minute freezing the next.
I know what it's like having the door open for pets though,
Storm is in and out all day when we have him so the draft that comes through when he opens the door can be freezing . He hasn't learned to close the door

Gem, we must be telepathic, or sharing a brain because I was going to ask exactly this question today!

It sounds as though your DDs are hardy souls. I think 16C is the minimum temperature allowed in workplaces such as offices and schools, and that's quite chilly in my opinion.

In the winter OH sets our thermostat at 18C. I usually turn it up to 19 or 20! He turns it back to 18, I turn it back up! I usually "win" because I'm so grumpy if I'm cold. I don't think we've ever had it higher than 20 though. The wood burner keeps the whole house warm enough except the kitchen. The kitchen is usually the coldest place in our house - two outside walls, facing north, and one small radiator.

I always tell my OH he doesn't feel the cold as he grew up in a huge Victorian barn of a house with no central heating, just an Aga in the kitchen and tiny fires in his dad's study and the "front room" .

I am the other way round, it isn't bad now, but, when the children were small and there was no energy crisis I used to melt at DS1's. The opposite to that, when the girls came here as babies DIL would put them extra clothes on. She only told me that later on.

My heating is hardly ever on, IF it gets to 18 it is hot enough for me, where I do the coffee it always far too warm It is 16 degrees here at them moment with the sun!

A few years ago when I was going through the menopause, I had my own internal heating ,
I would sit with the sitting room window open even when it was snowing.
Now I feel the cold easy ,
Except funnily enough in bed , I can't stand a warm bedroom or my feet covered.
B is always covering me up during the night as I throw the duvet off

I don’t like feeling the cold so my heating is on most of the day and I over ride it if it goes off before I go to bed. I am in a bungalow and it is very compact so heats up quite quickly.

I can sympathise with you Gem. DD2’s house is always cold. I have to remember to take a warm jumper when I go. They all wear these fleece tops which are huge. We feel the cold but like you Plant, we are in a bungalow which is heat efficient.

Ours is set at 20. I feel the cold, hubby doesn't.
He knows i won't turn it down,so he is usually sat with a short sleeved t-shirt on.
I love the electric blanket and i will not get into a cold bed.
He would have to be perishing to get into a warm bed.

Nanto, we don't have an electric blanket, but if I think about it I put my jim jams on the radiator during the evening.
