I mentioned on Chat that we're making a small area of our garden into a garden in memory of our dear DS1. The area is in one corner where it gets sun first thing in the morning and later in the day. There is a very unattractive tree in a neighbour's garden immediately behind us so OH has put trellis up so we can grow a couple of climbers to draw the eye away from the tree (hopefully!)
We're choosing plants that have a connection with our son and/or a special meaning. He loved growing banana plants, and we have several that he's propagated over the years. They're quite tall, so one will have to go right in the corner. There will be lavender plants around the edge, as he liked the scent of them, and one of the climbers will be a Passion flower. We had an incredibly beautiful one in the garden of the house where he was born. DIL1 has given us an Allium, a Choisya and a dwarf lavender - all plants that have meaning for her. DS2 would like a Lotus flower but as that isn't possible, he's opted for something yellow and white. We got some suitable daffodils today and some Cheerfulness bulbs. One friend gave us a lovely Clematis and another friend brought round a Peace rose.
We want a bit of instant colour and something for the winter, so got some heathers and hellebores which will look nice during the winter.
