    Clothes props

There was some discussion on clothes props in the previous now closed chatbox, including a link posted by Lizzie.

Props can now be discussed on this thread

We have 2 metal ones and I remember having trouble finding the second one.
Growing up we had a wooden one made by my dad and I don't think mum ever bought another in the 60 plus years she lived in her house!

Someone on one of the FB groups I belong to was selling them!! Wooden one that is! Maybe they're coming back into fashion!

I discovered over the weekend that my DD has wooden ones.
I always thought she had metal ones .
She rang last night and I mentioned it ,
She said the metal ones kept failing like mine did so she went back to wood ones

I know MILs is wood she’s had the same one for about 30+ years , they were made to last in them days 😁

I think the widespread use of tumble driers and the rorary ones for garden made props a bit redundant.

Now busy younger people who used tumble driers are many more likely to hang washing outside to be eco friendly. I have always hung washing outside unless the weather prevents and I think the majority of us here do the same.

I love my tumble drier, I never hang towels out I hate when they are rough but I do like my bedding out when I can .
Although I hate the smell of fresh air on them when I bring them in .
If I can I get B to bring them in .
nothing nicer than a nice drying day and your washing blowing on the line ,
Wet days I’m not averse to using the tumble every time as I don’t have a clothes airer and my radiators have covers .

Towels are better from the tumble drier I agree Oma. In winter when we dry clothes inside on airers I dry the towels in the tumble drier.

I mentioned elsewhere that I'd love a proper clothes line - I think clothes dry much better on it than a rotary one, and it's easier to peg them out - and get them in quickly when it rains! I've having serious clothes line envy here! My DIL2 has a retractable line, which would be great, but there's nowhere to attach one at the bottom of our garden. But I'd definitely look for a wooden pole as they seem more reliable and durable.

When I was working I used the tumble drier more than I do now, but I always put towels in the tumble dryer until quite recently. Now I dry them on the line and then give them 10 mins in the dryer to fluff them up. Mind you, our towels are so ancient that it doesn't make much difference.

I have only tried a tumble drier once, I was sat here thinking that the washing would be quicker drying outdoors! So it went! I love rough towels, I always have done.

My washing soon dries outdoors, if the weather is really bad I have 2 hanging racks in the spare room, they soon dry in there as well.

One of our two clothes props has broken! The metal just snapped. It was the older one and we have had it a long time.

Lizzie, I think clothes need a good fast spin before they go in the tumble dryer, or they take forever!

Gem, can you use your line with just one prop, or do you have to get a new one?

Daisy we have 2 lines, so when we use both, which is most of the time, we do need 2 props.
Sadly it is the time of year when there won't be much outdoor drying for some time, so plenty of time to find a replacement.

Gem, two lines!! What luxury. But, you're right - not much drying outside during the winter. We don't get sun on that part of the garden through the darkest months.

Daisy it's mainly because of the apple tree we need 2 washing lines! Half of each line is in direct firing line of birds in the tree
