    A Memory Garden

I've mentioned doing a lot of gardening this week, and what OH and I have been doing is to create a little corner of our garden in memory of our much-loved DS1. I want it to be filled with plants and flowers that he loved, including his amazing banana plants.

OH and our neighbour have constructed frames and trellis to support a couple of climbing plants to try and soften the harshness of another neighbour's Willsonian tree that had been neglected and is now a rather sorry sight. DS1 loved lavender, so that will be included. When he was in the hospice DIL and I took comfort from the beautiful gardens there, so we'll include some of those memories in plant form. We have a lovely Peace rose a dear friend gave us, and a pretty clematis from another close friend. We might include a Passion flower - we had one which scrambled all over the house we lived in when DS1 was born. Other plants will go in as and when we decide how it's evolving.

Daisy, this is such a beautiful idea and a lovely special tribute to your beloved DS.

I can't wait to see the photos as it grows and evolves xxx

How lovely. The climbing vines and sweet scents will be a poignant memorial. Probably too cold for pomegranates here, but this from the Song of Songs is appropriate I think.

Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vines have budded, if their blossoms have opened, and if the pomegranates are in bloom— there I will give you my love.’

I hope (and believe) it will give us a focus for good memories and tending it will be a labour of love.

Sum1, what beautiful words. They have brought a lump to my throat. I think you're right about pomegranates and our climate, but I had considered a grape vine. There is a vine in their garden which they moved from their previous house and which we had given to them from our garden! Unfortunately, I think the space is too small. But the small tree visible in the photos is a plum tree - yet to bear fruit, but we live in hopes.
