    A new tap

    About 8 years ago we redid our ensuite bathroom - took the bath out, put a digital shower in, new tiling, loo, handbasin etc, and were very pleased with the result - except for the trendy waterfall tap we had been seduced by. It's been a pain in the neck when it's worked - splashy and hard to keep the limescale off it. Then it started leaking, so OH put a new cartridge in. Then it leaked again, and again - more new cartridges - and it's been leaking yet again. So we've finally put a whole new tap on - just an ordinary mixer tap, nothing fancy. And it's wonderful. Such a luxury after 8 years of the trendy diva of the waterfall tap.

    Sometimes, simple is best!

    I can't believe I'm so pleased by having a new tap.

    Well done Daisy!

    We once stayed at OH's elder niece's house. They had a waterfall tap in the bathroom and it was all limescaley and didn't look nice at all. I remember thinking 'I'm glad we haven't got one!'

      Oh Daisy we had the same problem with ours it splashed everywhere , not so much lime scale though but our water is soft ,
      Then we changed it for a lovely one with a glass panel that lit up it went from blue when the water was cold through to Red for hot water again a waterfall and it was no better.
      We like you eventually changed back to a good old mixer tap .

      Nothing wrong with what we know works is there 😀

        Daisy, I have no idea what a waterfall tap is, but, when we got the new boiler and the GD's were small I would stand with them so they didn't touch the tap and get it too hot, I then bought a thermostatic? tap and even fitted it myself, I could relax then if they were having a shower.

          It's good to know we're not the only ones who didn't like the waterfall tap.

          Lizzie, a waterfall tap is a mixer tap with one post coming up out of the sink, but instead of an ordinary spout or tap it has a broad shallow surface for the water. Ours was like this in the link (One of the company's best sellers, it says!)


          You were a talented DIYer even then, Lizzie. It was a good idea to get a thermostatic tap.

            Daisy, at the time I sent DS2 a photo of the (fitted) tap, it was a Sunday, he replied it was a smart tap, I told him it wasn't the tap but that I had already managed to fit it myself.

            I have never seen one of those waterfall taps here. I have just had a look and they are available here.

                Lizzie, you are a talented DIYer! My OH can and will tackle most jobs and saves us a lot of money. She wouldn't fit a tap though.

                    Lizzie, your comment about turning the water off at the mains reminds me I don't know where our stock cock is! I think it's in the garage somewhere, but I must check.

                    Gem, I think a lot of small plumbing jobs are easier now than they used to be - it's easier to make connections water tight and there's flexible hose. This isn't the voice of experience - just comments OH has made at times!!! But I still wouldn't be brave enough to tackle the jobs Lizzie can do.
