    Lakeland vegetable bags

My friend and ex neighbour put me onto these bags.
He told me how good they were and gave me one to try. We then bought a boxful as they work!

We put carrots, broccoli, new potatoes in them. I'm sure you could put any veg in.
Wash and dry the vegetables, pop them into the bag, seal the top with a clip or elastic band. Put them in the fridge. Food stay fresh for ages. We were throwing carrots away regularly before we discovered these bags.

Save waste & keep fruit & veg fresh for longer. Unique formula to slow down the natural ageing process. Moisture & bacteria-resistant. Pack of 20. 28x46cm.

Gem, I've often wondered if these really worked. I'm very tempted to get some as well. But I find most veggies keep quite well in the fridge. Some seem to be ok unwrapped like white or red cabbage, parsnips, swede, sweet peppers, but others are better wrapped - broccoli in particular but also spring greens, cavolo nero, cauliflower and carrots.

If the veg bags improved the keeping quality of any of those it would be good.

Nan2, I was sceptical until my friend gave me one to try!

Daisy, it works very well with carrots. Those were the main vegetables I wanted them for likewise my friend, as he lives alone so needs things to last that bit longer.

I havenโ€™t tried those bags, I wrap broc in beeswax wraps, carrots do quite well in paper bags but I will have a look at the ones Lakeland sell,we donโ€™t have one near. Waitrose sell cloth bags for veg. My DD will not buy anything in plastic and buys most of her fruit and veg from a farm shop and puts them in cloth bags.

I try to buy things not in plastic, but sometimes you get caught out. If I order loose veggies on my supermarket delivery invariably most of them come in a huge supermarket bag. It seems such a waste for, say, 4 onions!!

My DD sent me some of those bags( not sure where she got them from, probably Lakeland) and I find them very good.
I also use one of those yellow banana bags in the fridge , Being on my own.a bunch of bananas inevitably ripen at the same time so popping some in the bag in the fridge slows ripening time and I can get a couple out at a time to bring them to room temperature.

Clover, the banana bags sounds a really good idea, too, although OH wouldn't approve as I nearly always make banana bread with the over-ripe ones!
