The Reluctant Gardener

For nearly 55 years my OH has been totally disinterested in the garden or gardening. Given the choice between removing his own eyelashes one by one and doing gardening, he'd have chosen to forego eyelashes!

But since we've had the new patio he's been much more willing to give me a hand with the heavy stuff. Yesterday he was keen to plant the new apple trees, and even discussed plans for the rest of the garden. I mentioned to a friend last night that he seems to be getting interested in the garden. Later in the evening we were chatting and he said how satisfying the day had been.

Dare I hope a new dawn is approaching.

Oma - I hope you're right.

Plant - yes, I think so, provided he can do it with a large spade or fork. I'm not so sure about weeding between closely packed plants.

Ooooh beware, Daisy…a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing as I have found out to my cost! 😬 Supervise at every opportunity is my advice.

Grauntie - I saw your very wise advice a little bit too late today to stop him chopping all the branches of two old apple trees this afternoon. We had agreed they were very diseased and had to go, but it was a bit of a shock to see to 5 ft trunks and nothing else when I got home from dog training.

It sounds as though you have had a painful experience with over-enthusiastic Under Gardeners.
