    New plants and Rosemary

Just been to a Dobbies garden centre, I am a member so I get discount and free coffees. I decided to have a sandwich lunch as well. Whilst I was there the heavens opened. I bought some more bulbs, some heathers and a cyclamen for indoors and some more tulip bulbs. Our Rosemary bush which is very old is dying so I found another one. I shall move the herbs into the courtyard nearer to our kitchens., they are in troughs. I shall pot the Rosemary in a large pot. Is there some superstition that you should be given a Rosemary plant for good luck. The old one was a present.

Your garden will be looking lovely by Spring, Plant. Did you get winter flowering heathers?

I took cuttings from our elderly Rosebush earlier in the year and they're growing on quite well, and I took out a bit of root and grew that on as well. I don't know about giving Rosemary for good luck, though.

(Just took some softwood cuttings and put them round the edges of a couple of pots with a bit of compost with plenty of sand and some fine gravel for drainage.)

My DD wanted some Rosemary for a recipe she was using and is used to just go and pick it (thanks to mum) but was dismayed to find the old bush nearly dead so I thought I had better buy one for the cook. I have sage, chives, marjoram, thyme in troughs. Mint is in another patch.

We planted up our Cyclamen today in between showers ,
Will try to plant the bulbs during the week

I watched something last week about a tourist scam in Italy
Gypsy's offer you Rosemary for good luck then as soon as you accept they demand money and get quite aggressive if you refuse

Oma - not such good luck if you get someone demanding money from you like that! I hope you can get the bulbs in next week.

Plant - I love using fresh Rosemary. Giving one to the cook is a great idea - it's such a useful herb and I love the fragrance of it.
