Oh dear Daisy. hope you get this done to your satisfaction. Even if it can't be done until November.
Certainly sounds like he bit off more than he could chew.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.
I hope you will feel happier when you have had a tidy up. Did the new patio man comment on the previous work? Time to get the paints out Daisy
Plant - the new patio man's comment was "a disgrace to the profession" - among other comments. I'll try and get busy with paint brushes when we've tidied up a bit - I wouldn't want that mess in my sight line at the moment!
Lizzie - yes, the garden will recover, but trying to get it sorted for the winter means we're working against the clock. Once the weather gets wet it just becomes a quagmire of heavy clay.

New Patio Man has been keeping in touch regularly and today he came and delivered materials, including some more slabs. He did the levels and will need to take up some of the slabs that the other Patio Man laid. We thought that might be the case, but as they are covered in cement splashes we can put them somewhere less obvious than right outside the back door.
He still hasn't got a firm starting date, but he's promised he'll make a start as soon as he can. We feel happier that he's done the levels properly unlike the other man who was doing them 'by eye'. He's also said he will help us with grinding out the pointing which is still a horrible yellow colour. OH is going to make a start on that because we just want to get it done.

New Patio Man arrived with three strong, burly lads and within minutes both concrete mixers were going full blast, lines were down for the levels and they were getting up the uneven slabs that the other chap put down. They worked non-stop till it was all but dark, fuelled with coffee, tea and Jaffa cakes.
They can't come back now for about two weeks, but they hope to finish it then in two days, and seeing how quickly they work, it looks possible! There's light at the end of this particular tunnel at last!
