    Mirrors

In my dinning room I have a very large mirror , as its part of my kitchen it gets dirty easily ,
I would take it down but I love it ,

Anyway I clean all my mirrors regularly and have no bother with them ,
This one on the other hand is a damn pain in the backside .

Its sort of 9 mirrors in a grid , I have tried everything ,
From vinegar to glass cleaner , washing up liquid , even tried a old method of cold tea , they look clean till the sun shines then you see all the smudge marks that just seem to move around with glass cloths or newspaper .

I tried again this morning and was getting quite cross with It ,
It is on the wall right next to my patio doors so the sun shines directly onto it showing the slightest mark .

I said to B that's it I am getting rid of it it is doing my head in ,

He said have you tried the stuff we clean our specs with ?
So he got the bottle and sprayed the mirrors and buffed it off with a lens cloth and hurray they are sparkling

I might give it a second chance and leave it up , but this morning after several attempts I was ready to take a hammer to the b****y thing and shoot the person with the bright idea to hang a mirror there in the first place , but that would be me .

Oma - you have my sympathy! I hate smudge marks on mirrors and windows, although funnily enough dogs' nose marks don't worry me, which is just as well!

Have you tried the glass spray professional picture framers use? Is the grid made of wood? If it's just waxed and not sealed you could be getting marks from that marking the glass and I'd think they'd be really hard to clean. If that's the case I can't think how you'd avoid it other than masking off the grid before cleaning the glass.

Oma - I was trying to remember a brand name for the glass cleaner, but can't. I asked OH, and he can't remember either, but he said have you tried Auto-glass cleaner? The little bottles of glasses cleaner is quite an expensive way of doing it.

It's a lovely attractive mirror, it would be such a pity to give up on it and definitely don't shoot the person who chose it in the first place? xx

I hope you find a way to stop the smears, it is a pretty mirror, could you hang it somewhere else?

I have a lot of those microfibre cloths Lizzie. They are useful for so many things aren't they? And easy to wash.

Daisy I never thought of auto glass i will try that on the next clean and report back ,

Lizzie I have a big box of micro cloths but even those didn't help , I do think its because its so close to the kitchen it gets greasy that's the problem '

Plant its so heavy it takes two to take it down to decorate and put up again ,it has to go on a solid wall , the Dinning room wall is a external solid wall the inner walls just say hold a picture frame they so flimsy , if I tried to hang it anywhere else it would pull the wall down .

It doesn't look so on the picture but it is quite large .

Yep, tried all my old tricks Rubbing alcohol too Lizzie , Although I must say the rubbing alcohol wasn't to bad just didn't give the shine I wanted

I use Vinegar a lot in my cleaning especially my glass tables and windows and white tiles in my kitchen and bathroom and always get a good result ,
Just not with this mirror .
I recon its there to try my patience and little gremlins come out at night to smudge it

I think I may send it to the charity shop Oma

Not that I don't think it's lovely, I do. It just seems a lot of work!

I probably would have Gem but it cost a arm and a leg and I don't think B would be happy with me

Put it this way I won't buy anything like it again
