I have just been gardening and sitting having a rest and enjoying my lunch I looked at the plants, some I just love like Flocks, Alchemilla Mollis, Pinks, Hydrangeas, Hardy Geraniums and so on BUT there are some that I regret planting such as a beautiful climbing rose called Kiftsgate, it is a thug and should come with a warning. Japanese Anemone that has taken over one border and is spreading into another, the roots are so deep I find it difficult to dig out. Montbretia. A tall yellow daisy a friend gave me, it is coming up in the paving. Have you got any plants you regret planting?

Years ago we planted a Rose of Sharon , a tiny little bush that had lovely yellow flowers , in a couple of years it grew so big it killed all the plants around it and spread so fast and no matter how hard we cut it back it grew and grew , we finally had to dig it out , such a shame as it was a beautiful bush but too big for my boarder .Im not fat just 6ft too small

Plant - over the years I have often mistaken utter thugs for pretty friends, but usually we were moving fairly soon and, guiltily, I've left them to the new owner!
But karma has caught up with me. There was a border where nothing would grow, and a friend gave me some Golden Rod. It's lovely for a couple of weeks and has a nice fragrance, but underneath it's as sneaky as can be, and is gradually working it's way through a rockery/water feature and no matter how I try, I can't dig it all out.Perhaps we'll have to move house again!!!
Kiftsgate is a beautiful rose, but it's not so much a Rambler as a Marathon runner!

Not thugs of the plant world, but a few years ago,we planted a honeysuckle and a jasmine.
Can't remember the variety of honeysuckle, but the jasmine is clotted cream.
We bought them because we made to believe by the garden centre, that they were highly scented.
But they aren't. That is why we want a new rose,to replace both of them.Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I've just remembered, Oma, that we had a Rose of Sharon some years ago. It got overgrown and untidy and eventually we dug it out, but I bet that's why we get odd ones popping up around the garden, even though it's years later.

Nothing now, but years ago in the previous garden I decided Russian Vine (mile a minute plant) woud be perfect to accompany the clematis growing along the trellising which topped the 4 foot brick wall between gardens. It went berserk of course and we spent many a year tacking it as it threatened to engulf the garden“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown
