Plant - are they what are also called edible dormouse? I've never seen one, and probably wouldn't recognise one if I did!

I Googled it. Not sure if the link will work. The article is from 2006, so quite dated, but the glis glis are still the same.

They live in your loft, breed like rabbits, go bump in the night, gnaw through wiring, strip fruit trees in your garden - and you can't touch them because they're a protected species.

They are very cute, very large eyes but a real pest. They can also run up walls and glass. Baron Rothschild has a lot to answer for. Fingers crossed we will not have any more.

Thanks, Nana, for the link. I was trying to remember where I'd vaguely heard of them, and it must have been from when we lived in Bedfordshire years ago. It seems crazy that they are pests but you can't control them. I think we have to live alongside our wildlife and it's all precious, but creatures that chew through wires can cause fires and are dangerous to everyone. They're not even a native species.

They are terribly cute, but not running free in your house I'm sure!

No mouse in the trap at Mum's today. We have moved it into a different room now. I hope that now there is no food source they have moved on!

Gem - I bet they've moved on. The restaurant at your Mum's is obviously closed now, so they will go elsewhere. I hope.

I have a WI friend who had a problem with mice, she used to trap them and as she doesn't drive, she used to put them in a cage in her garage and feed them until her DD could drive her a distance away to release them.
My OH wasn't as kind, he had problems with mice eating all the peas he planted.

Plant - we gave up growing peas at the allotment for the same reason, and would try and harvest corn on the cob before the mice got to them!

Pesky little things but your story made me smile Plant.
