Garden waste collections

We have general waste alternating with recycling collections weekly, so a collection of one or the other each week. During the summer months garden waste is fortnightly, the same week as recycling. But not at the moment.

Our garden waste collections start again next week. We have a full bin!

Enfys - I think there are a lot of people who have got more garden waste than they can fit into their bins/bag at the moment. OH has cut everything up very small to go in the trailer, and even that if full to the brim.

We got a letter from the council yesterday to say our waste and recycling is going to be changed. With living in an apartment we have an underground container next to the block, 3 actually, 2 for refuse and one for food, garden waste etc then we take our plastic and paper waste to containers across the road from here, that is going to be changed and the refuse near the block is going to be for plastic/metal and what refuse we do have we will have to take to the one across the road. I do recycle everything and for me it will be easier as I have hardly any waste left after recycling, some neighbours don't bother at all and it all goes in one huge bag, they will now have to start and recycle. It will be the same with the houses as they do have the bins in their gardens.

I have a green bin and a grey bin emptied alternate weeks we do not have a garden waste bin in each garden but we share one between the 8 bungalows,we have a private gardener who we all pay individually every month he trims the front lawn edges and mows the grass and pulls out the weeds and he then takes the cuttings away with him so its the best £10 spent he doesn't do my back garden as I have artificial grass out there so all I have to do is "brush" it to get rid of any leaves.

There are a couple of people around here advertising to take away garden waste for a small fee. One is donating this to the NHS, not sure about the other. One of our neighbours had the contents of his green bin taken away yesterday plus several black bin bags of garden waste. They only charge a few pounds so I think there will be a few takers if this continues.

Our two green bins are full to the brim and I have containers full in the greenhouse. With all our grass and hedges, plus my gardening waste, doesn't take long for us to fill our bins. Hope they will be emptied soon.

Gem - I wonder where they take the garden waste? It must be difficult to find somewhere, unless they're fly tipping. But a lot of us are getting desperate to have a trip to the tip!

We're ok at the moment because we emptied one of the compost bins and mulched round the garden. The other one's about half full but we can tip that into the empty one because it needs turning over, and start again with one that's easiest to get to.

Had an email from the council to say they were starting garden rubbish collection on the 11th May. I am pleased that they compost garden waste and sell it back to us.

Garden waste collections are resuming later this month. The tip (recycling and landfill) is opening too, but only by prebooked appointment at first.
We don't need to go to the tip urgently, but we do need the green bins emptied, at our house and my mum's, so that is good news.

I think our tip is due to open soon, possibly by limiting car number plates - odds one day, evens the next. I can imagine what the queues will be like as well!

We have had notification that our tips are open but you have to have some identification that you live in Bucks and of course there will be long queues. I have full paper boxes and cardboard boxes in my garage, rather than put it out for the dustman I take it to the tip myself, not sure when that will be now. Our garden waste is being collected on the 11th, they are full to the brim and I have other containers full waiting to go in the bin.

Plant - I noticed a lot of people in our road have put their green bags out ready for collection - they are all full to overflowing!

We have been told not to put out extra garden waste apart from what fits into the bin. You can imagine some people optimistically leaving lots of extra stuff beside the bin!
They also said as there will be such a backlog, it may be several days before all the bins are emptied. The advice is put it out for the correct day and leave it there until collected!

Gem - at least you don't have to keep moving it in and out like a strange game of yo-yo!

We can't leave rubbish out because of the ponies etc. Although we've got cattle grids at the ends of our road most of the village hasn't, so the animals can get at anything left outside.
