Cheerful Signs of Spring, 2020

I'm sure we're all fed up with winter. Although it hasn't (so far) been very cold we have had more than our fair share of rain.

So let's cheer ourselves up with signs of spring in our gardens.

I've just had a look round ours and found snowdrops just coming into flower, hellebores doing their glorious best, sweet little primroses with lots more buds forming under the slightly battered flowers, a couple of alpines coming into bud, new growth on a climbing rose, new blades of chives popping up, ornamental grasses growing fresh new shoots, a few daffs in bud, although quite a lot are blind, crocus coming up, pulmonaria starting to flower, and of course, weeds putting on lots of growth!

There is a daffodil out in our front garden
We saw snowdrops yesterday, and primroses in our friend's garden.

I only have tubs that have to be planted up so nothing in my garden

Our snowdrops are in flower,and the daffodils are in bud. Couple of crocus ready for flowering.

Oma - you've got time to plan what to put in your tubs (apart from your neighbour's cats)

Nanto - aren't snowdrops a welcome sight! No buds on our crocuses yet, but it sounds as though yours just need a bit of sunshine to push them into flower.

We have a roundabout that is sponsored by Dreams the bedding company. Came around it yesterday and it was a sight, it is covered in snowdrops.

Oh, Plant - I bet that's a lovely sight. I hope it doesn't distract the drivers too much - I think I'd find myself doing two or three circuits to take it all in.

When we lived in Holland OH used to take a different train home to see the tulips in bloom! They were a magnificent sight. I also loved visiting Keukenhof when the hyacinths were in bloom...the scent was wonderful.

Wee Granny - we posted together! The Dutch bulb fields are on my bucket list. It's the sheer size of seeing so many colourful flowers together that is so wonderful as well as the scent, of course.

The few snowdrops we have are pushing through, but no sign of any flowers yet. Next door’s camellia has been in flower for a couple of weeks but ours are still tight buds. Theirs is in full sun but ours in shade so I guess that’s why. Lots of greenery sprouting but the only colour I have is in a tub by the front door. However, I still have geraniums flowering in the tubs at the front, don’t like to pull them out so I’ll see how long they last.

Enfys - that's amazing that you have geraniums still flowering. Are they in a sheltered sunny spot?

I've only got one large and one small pots of geraniums (I don't like the smell) but I've put them in the greenhouse and cut them right back when the flowers all died. There are new shoots popping up now, but obviously no flowers.

Our camelia is still in tight buds, but it doesn't get much sun and has been waterlogged for ages.

I brought in 3 containers of geraniums and have kept them in the conservatory. All are flowering

Lovely,that all the spring flowers are flowering.
Our snowdrops seem to have tripled this year.
