    Tulips gone mad?

I was just Googling a photo of a plant to show Nana on another thread when I came across this tulip. My first instinct was "what! Why would you grow a tulip like that" - but what do you all think? Gorgeous? Novelty? Ridiculous? Hideous? Doesn't even look like a tulip?

Not sure.I’d like to see one “in the flesh”. I liked it a bit more when I saw the picture of it opened out a bit. I’m a traditionalist and prefer the more usual blooms.

A bit over the top, not for me.

It looks more like peony crossed with ice cream cone

I wouldn't be against having one, but I do like traditional tulips.

I have never been fond of tulips they seem to always bend over after a day or two and look quite limp, these look nice in the pic of them all halfway open but still not 100% sure if I like them apart from the colour which would suit my decor.

Very aptly named. Not for me though, I like the less fussy kind too.

I don’t like them, prefer the usual ones. Also, I really dislike the lurid coloured heather you see around, much prefer the natural coloured ones. I think they are artificially coloured and they look it too.

                      I gree, Enfys.

Did anyone see that programme about Sainsbury's one night this week? It showed how they order flowers for Mother's Day, and their best seller this year was a brightly multi-coloured single rose, sprayed of course.

I’m not that keen on it .
I have a sort of love/hate relationship with tulips. When they are in bud they can be beautiful but when they start to open up all you are left with us a green stalk with black tip , at least daffodils have a fairly long ‘shelf’ life

It seems the general consensus is not in favour of this new tulip.

Enfys I agree about artificially coloured flowers. Just can’t see the point. You can’t really improve on nature in this way.

I saw the Sainsbury's programme Daisy.....the rose looked awful ! I'm glad nobody gave me one!

When I was teaching I remember putting white carnations in coloured water to show how the flowers sucked up the water and how the flower heads changed colour. Our results were very tasteful though!
