    New Furniture

It must be Spring in the air - it seems several of us are shopping or window shopping for new furniture!

We need new armchairs for the living room and it would be nice to have a new sofa as well, although they don't have to match - I like the idea of them being different.

We had a first look round this morning. OH and I have got totally different tastes and shopping for major things for the house takes us ages. We can make our minds up very quickly, but for different items! It was a bit depressing to see a sea of beige everywhere! I can see it's a useful, neutral colour for a long-term item, but I'm not sure I can live with it. OH wants electric recliners again. I want manual recliners. OH would like leather again, but I really don't want it, but fabric is just an open invitation to soak up a glass of red wine in the first week!

How do other people decide these things?

We just take for ever deciding, which means we hardly ever buy anything - thereby saving money!

We have been looking for a coffee table for at least 3 years.
This summer we want new garden/patio furniture. We have a small round metal bistro table and chairs. I brought them from my previous home and they have seen better days. We would like something bigger, probably wooden. We were looking last year but didn't get anything.

Gem - we've got a wooden table and chairs for the patio, and they need a coat of something or other to keep them looking good. We try and do it every year (or OH does!) They are lasting really well, but the chairs have arms, which adjust to change the rake of the seat. This means it's quite hard to sit on them and then pull them up closer to the table. But otherwise, they're fine.

We have opted for Cream Leather arm chairs but they are totally different from the sofa , this will be the first time I haven't had them to match so im a bit nervous about them ,

I also ordered my Carpet yesterday in Grey , again never had a coloured carpet other than Cream for about 15 years so another change for me ,
I had Grey put on my stairs and in the two bedrooms last year and I was really worried I wouldn't like it but I love them , its just taking that step isn't it ,
I would like a Fabric Sofa but im not sure after my last fabric suite was a disaster I hated it ,

My DD has a small corner sofa in Grey and a Pink Velvet arm chair she has never had a suite that matched and it looks lovely
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Oma - Don't worry, I'm sure your new chairs will look great with your sofa. I don't know if I'm brave enough to go for something like pink velvet, but I bet it looks fabulous and very luxurious.

When we eventually change our stair and landing carpet we'll have grey.

I never realised till I've looked just now, but all my chairs and sofas are odd, but all creams and biege.
The three seater came with a matching chair, but that broke, so we bought a "cuddle" chair, for me and the kids. Hubby had alot of back trouble so has his own recliner, and we still have MIL 's recliner too. They've all got different lime green throws over them.
There is some sort of theme going on
I know they are quite expensive purchases, but go on be brave. Have some fun.

GJ - we've got lime green throws and some lime green cushions on our current cream sofa and armchairs. We've also got lime green curtains and a green stripey rug!

At long last we've gone and done it! Given our individual wish lists, this is a master of compromise!

We've ended up with two electric reclining armchairs, one grey leather and one fabric in a pale greenish colour, plus one 3 seater sofa, non-reclining in the same greenish fabric. I had hoped for them all to be a little smaller, but in fact they are about 2 cm wider, but we're going to re-arrange the room so the size will be less of an issue.

I suspect we tried the salesman's patience during our negotiations, but we got there in the end!

Delivery is 8-12 weeks though, so we'll have to put up with the old chairs for a while longer.

Oma - they're big purchases - no sense in rushing them. Sadly ours won't be here for you to check out!

I would love to go on a shop for new lounge furniture just a sofa and two recliners but to be honest I just can't justify it as the two sofa's we have are in such good condition, they are dark brown lein various colours ather and we bought them from DFS over 10yrs ago the changes over the years have been the soft furnishings so I am going to keep them for a couple of years still plus they are so comphy. At the moment I have grey and silver cushions in different shapes long ones and big 24" ones all made for JL but bought from a fabulous discount outlet in West Kirby which is not far from where I live.

Glamm - they're big purchases, aren't they, and if yours are still in good condition and comfy then you might as well keep them for a bit longer. One of our chairs doesn't recline any more, and is very scruffy. The other still reclines, and isn't quite so scruffy, and the sofa's not bad, but it's leather and I don't find it inviting, so I hardly ever use it. I shall definitely be more inclined to use the new one!

I just wish we didn't have to wait so long for it.
