I signed on the dotted line yesterday to have my kitchen doors, drawers, worktops and sink replaced. I haven't told my family yet. It has been a thought of mine for some time and I can't wait now. Whilst the very nice gentleman was measuring up, my decorator arrived to look at my bedroom, I want him to decorate it soon. they had a chat about both their mothers having Alzheimer and the difficulty of finding them the right home. Expecting someone else from the company today, not sure what he has to do. It will all be much lighter and easier to clean. He thought it would be about two weeks.

At the moment I have oak doors with lots of ridges and they are difficult to clean and the worktop is shades of green and I have a green sink. the new doors are cream shaker style, they call them and the worktop is a darker mottled effect which goes well with my tiled floor and the tiles. I am having a stainless steel sink. A gentleman is here atm measuring up.What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

It is a Birmingham company doing it. I am always a bit wary of salespeople but the man who came yesterday and the one this morning were great, lovely Brummie accent. It is being done next Wednesday. I only have to clear some of the cupboards thank goodness. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

Plant - it will be great. As you say, easier to clean and also bright and fresh.
If you are having a new worktop I'd clear all your drawers and base cupboards out. We had our done just over 3 years ago and it didn't make a lot of mess, but I would have had to wash anything left in the cupboards - I was glad I'd emptied them.

Plant it was funny reading your title, as in the book I am reading there are having a kitchen refusbishment because a pizza was left in the oven and it all caught fire
I'm glad yours was due to a less dramatic reason!

I think I will take your advice Daisy and clear out all the bottom cupboards and drawers. I have 18 doors and 5 drawers. Told DD and sil last evening, Sil said don't tell my mother and my DD was very pleased and looking forward to seeing it finished. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

Plant - I'm glad the family are as pleased as you are. It sounds like a very large kitchen - that's a lot of doors.
The company fitting our new worktop said we didn't need to empty the cupboards, but they were so wrong! It's well worth clearing everything out and putting it all in a different room out of the way.
