    Hallway and stairs decorating

As in Daisy's household the hall and stairs have been on the decorating list around here for years.

We were determined to do it this year. There was a time limit really as once golf season begins OH can be playing 4 days a week often.
After a couple of years (no exaggeration) of colour discussion we chose two shades of grey, and we want grey and black stripes for the carpet.
I wanted us to pay a decorator, OH was having none of it. We are on a budget so I understand, but I considered it worth paying for.

However we have almost finished and I feel proud that we did it ourselves, despite my misgivings
OH did far more than me, doing the ceilings, and the top of the walls above the dado rails, I did all the lower half in darker grey. We are almost on the final leg now. We will then get a new stair carpet. I also want curtains for the small window on the landing. There is only a bamboo blind there now. I want to leave the blind, but have some nice curtains to add interest to the walls. I will look in Dunelm.
I am looking forward to the finished effect with carpet and curtains

Well done Gem , I know whose door to knock on when we eventually get around to decorating the hall.... that’s if we don’t move, we still haven’t decided on that yet
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

I bet it looks lovely in the hall now Gem.
A new carpet will finish it off a treat.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Gem - well done - you should be proud of yourselves, and it sounds really lovely and smart.

We still haven't got a new rug for the hall or a new carpet for the stairs and landing.

The colours sound amazing I do love "shades of grey" no reference intended
Have you thought of getting voile curtaining for your landing and draping it across the window tied back with a silver-grey ribbon or tie back.

Ah thanks ladies I can come up with some good design ideas sometimes all thanks to my job when working with new home build and the decoration of said "show homes"
I would browse for cut offs of material (so much more cost effective) or look in charity shops for odd curtains you may be lucky if you have to buy new Dunhelm have single voils in various sizes and thickness.

Glamm - sorry, it's slightly off topic, but it must have been great fun putting together the look for a Show House.

We brought home a few carpet samples from the shop last week to try out on the stairs and landing for a few days. I also got DD2's input as she as a good eye for design. We have made our choice and will go to the carpet shop today.
We had changed our mind about the stripes (which look good on the straight up and down, but not as good when you have turns etc) We have gone for grey speckly. We have chosen a darkish one, which will look totally different to the pale creamy beige one there at present.
I haven't done anything about the curtains yet. As there is a blind set into the window recess, and no curtain pole, there is no unfinished look, so no rush to do this but I will do it at some point
