    Oh good lord Daisy!!
Thank goodness you found the leak in time. I hope the floorboards are OK.

Glad you tracked down the source of the damp smell before things got any worse. It would have been awful if the leak was in a different place and only came to light after you’d got the new flooring.

Daisy, see is you can claim for the leak on your home insurance. You might get a very smart new set. Good Luck

Might be worth trying, have you found a replacement yet?

OH is going to ring the insurance company tomorrow. So, fingers crossed. The hand basin has also cracked so fingers crossed we can claim. OH got all the flooring up today, and there is only a small patch of damp on the floorboards, which hopefully the dehumidifier will dry out.

Oma - you're right about little jobs becoming big ones!

Sunshine - I'd have been quite happy just with new flooring, but the suite is 15 years old, so maybe it's time to get a new one.

Clover - I agree! Doesn't bear thinking about.

                And so it continues! ......

The new flooring is fitted and actually looks very nice.

OH has ordered new panels and doors, made to measure to fit under the basin and round the toilet. He's managed to get a finish which is like the bath panel which was made to measure when the bath was new because it needed a door at one end to give access to the pipework underneath our posh air bath.

Today our treasure of a plumber arrived to refit the toilet pan, connect it all up, and fit the new hand basin which OH had ordered. What could possibly go wrong.

The hand basin doesn't fit into the housing which is already there. It's the right size but the way it's moulded underneath makes it too wide to sit into the worktop! OH and the plumber have now set off to various plumbers' merchants to find a basin that will fit! Anybody want a very nice, unused hand basin?

I've been very good and haven't once said 'I told you we ought to have ripped the whole thing out and put a new one in'! OH has said 'sorry' though.

Sounds like you were right Daisy, fitting new into old doesn't seem to work out any cheaper.

Plant - it certainly isn't going to be cheaper, and it's a whole lot more hassle.

I feel sorry for OH though. He thought he was doing the best thing, and I suppose we're the generation that was brought up to make do and mend where possible!

Sunshine - the insurance company were fine. They paid for the flooring and the damaged cupboards. Strangely they wouldn't pay for the actual cistern which was where the leak came from! But we're not complaining. They paid very quickly and didn't even ask us for receipts.

Goodness me Daisy. Sorry to hear about all this. Hope it's sorted soon. Pleased about the insurers paying up.

That’s good service from the insurers Daisy.I think paying up without a quibble is quite unusual!
Shame about the basin, these things are sent to try us.

Pleased your claim was accepted Daisy. It doesn’t help with the hassle it all causes though. Hope they can find a suitable basin to finish the job.
