New Flooring

Decisions decisions Daisy , one of my bathrooms is large floor tiles in a shade of browny grey riven style , but the wall tiles are large light brown mottled floor to ceiling tiles and a white suite , I never tire of it,however the other bathroom is completely different Victorian in style no bath just a shower sink and loo in blue and white , wallpaper gold with black feathers and a wooden floor sounds over the top lol probably is we have a very eclectic style

Oma. White towels are lovely, but they are best for just looking at! Grandkids are great at washing their hands, or is that wetting their hands, then wiping the dirt off on the towels.

I think you're right about the hand washing! I remember my GSs' dad could wash his face quite clean and still have really dirty hands!

Qwerty - if you don't get tired of something like that it shows you've chosen the right things for you. Your other bathroom sounds very Hollywood and glamorous.

Sunshine, we did exactly that with our black and white bathroom. I can change the towels and it looks different every time. I’m thinking about getting some more but can’t decide on the colour. I fancy orange or rust but DH isn’t too keen, will have to work on him 😀

Enfys, our en suite shower room is grey floor and wall tiles, white suite with very dark brown cupboards. I’ve got a mixture of white towels and bright orange ones, and I think they look nice. We’ve had them 3 years and they haven’t lost their colour - gold star to John Lewis. 😀

My problem is that I find there is too much choice out there & just as many cleaning solutions. We have like a lime wash laminate flooring in the bathroom but a Kircher/Kirshner (sp ?) flooring in the kitchen. I don't think it's very essy to clean. Needs stripping back etc & protective coat putting on.

Do you know what I would really like and that’s a wooden floor staircase and landing , only problem in my old age it could hurt as I come down the stairs on my bum which I have done in my early years 😫

Similar tiles to my kitchen and utility Nana , they still as you say get dirty 😕😊
Qwerty my Nephew has wooden flooring on his stairs too it's noisy and they had to put none stick strips on the edges as they can be quite slippy but look lovely 😊

Qwerty - I think you would hate the noise of bare wooden stairs. I hate stair carpet because I hate hoovering it, but I think it's the lesser of the two evils.

I remember when I was a child we had a stair runner with rods to hold it in place, and I can remember my mum brushing it with a hard bristle hand brush, and clouds of dust going everywhere! That must have been a nightmare.

Oh, Qwerty - I can't handle the responsibility! But I do think carpet is the lesser evil.

Plant - I bet keeping the stair rods shining was a job and a half. Did she do them with Brasso?

Well our bathroom flooring saga continues!

I have been saying to OH for ages that it often smells a bit damp in our main bathroom, and is he sure there isn't a leak somewhere. Well, there is! When we pulled a bit of the wrinkled vinyl stuff away we could see the base of the toilet/basin unit was wet. It looks a bit like this but has an extra cupboard between the sink and loo and a longer top so it fits the space between the side of the bath and the wall.




So we pulled out the kicking board, and then noticed there was water seeping down the wall into the cloakroom below. The leak is coming from where the water flows out of the cistern into the loo - so at least it's clean water!!

Tomorrow's job is to get all the layers of flooring up and hope the floor boards themselves are ok! We've got a dehumidifier going non-stop to try and dry it out. Part of the cabinet is ruined, and as the basin has some hairline cracks we think it's time to replace the whole lot. We really didn't have this on our agenda right now, but at least we've found the leak before it became a torrent!

Nanto - OH thought he could replace the rotten bit of the cabinets, but it's 15 years old and it will never match up - and I'm quite sure what we think is white in there will now actually be a rather dingy version of off-white!
