Gem - that sounds like a good idea. I didn't realise it was an option.

OH phoned our local carpet shop, who supplied the carpet and she told us what to expect so we sort of knew the options in advance

My SIL uses a sort of small flat hot iron thing and special adhesive tape the iron heats the glue on the tape so when the repair is done if you have for any reason to lift the carpet it will all come up as one ,
The adhesive spray is very strong and the patch would stick to the floor . As Sunshine said a good fitter looks for the way the pile runs and can do a seamless job , even better it's by the fireside as less carpet to lift 😊

The carpet shop seem to think that it will be a voucher for them, which must be spent on carpet.
The assessor however told us they don't deal with the carpet shop unless we go with their choice Allied (which we refused) but would pay a cheque to us!
We assume the assessor is correct. If not however this isn't a problem, as a new stair carpet is on our list, when we have decorated hall and stairs. So, after paying for the small repair, the rest will go on stair carpet (If the carpet shop owner is right!)
