Sum1 - it's the way the software works. I'm afraid we have no control over it. Your hall and stairs look very festive, and I should imagine it's a feline paradise for Coco!

I'm afraid our decorating was more to do with gloss and emulsion - both much needed. We didn't expect to be able to get decorators in until after Christmas, so we were very lucky. Now, of course, we're reluctant to stick Christmassy things to our pristine new walls and woodwork! By next year, we won't be worried about it!

Qwerty - I'm sorry to disillusion you! Our bookcase is still how it has been for the last several decades. OH wants to keep it dull, brown and patchy, but in the New year I have plans for it. We did rather run out of time to do the finishing touches. We have at least rehung pictures and I managed to persuade OH that pictures are to be seen and therefore are better at eye level than 2 inches from the ceiling!

Qwerty - fear not! I have often replied to a post and then realised it was another person. I'm finding all our Christmas avatars rather confusing, and I think normally I must 'read' the avatar rather than a name.

I still haven't taken any photos of our newly decorated hall! At the moment unwrapped Christmas presents are in there, and since we rehung the pictures this is the first bright sunny day we've had when it might be worth getting the camera out, but what with presents lying around and Eva and Cooper racing backwards and forwards today it not the day!

Well it is Daisy's thread, about her hallway originally, so it is perfectly acceptable to think it was her pic Qwerty

Sum1's bookcase is a king among bookcases. Ours is just a little tiddly one.

It’s the mother of all bookcases isn’t it wouldn’t mind a browse round that bookcase 😬

It was my father’s Qwerty. He had it custom made in 1929 when my parents were married, it’s solid oak and made to his own design. It’s got a lot of his books in there, and, I confess lots that I haven’t read. Zenophon’s Works for example! But it looks very learned to visitors. It’s also got a map cupboard and a missal cupboard. I hope that my DD and SiL will appreciate it in years to come. DS isn’t a reader and DiL has everything on Kindle or her computer.

Sum1 - what a wonderful thing to have - a treasured legacy from your father. It sounds as though he was a very well-read man with lots of interests.

I use my Kindle a lot, but it's not quite the same as a properly bound book. I do hope your son or daughter will fall in love with it should you ever want to part with it.

My little bookcase in the hallway contains cooker books.

It's very impressive, Sum1, and I don't think bookcases should be too tidy, they should feel as though it's fine for someone to take out a book and read it without upsetting a carefully staged display!
