Decorating the Hall

Gem - I'm very pleased with it - they re just finishing off now!

The next discussion will be pictures and furniture. OH would just put everything back where it was previously, but I think we have too many pictures up, and some of them won't look right with this colour scheme. I see pictures as part of the decoration, OH sees them as pictures he either likes or doesn't like without taking any notice of colours or positioning. Happy times!

We also have a small bookcase in the hall where I keep cookery books with the dog leads etc on top. Very scruffy and the bookcase is dark brown with lots of age-related scratches etc. I'd like to sand it down and paint it in one of those chalky type paints, but OH thinks it's very old and should be treated with greater respect. I'm getting rid of all the cookery books I never use - most of them! - because now if I want a recipe I usually find it quicker online. So if we make the bookcase look nicer we can use it elsewhere and it will be more useful. I'm sure OH won't see it this way, bless him.

Sounds very nice waiting for pictures ( says she drumming fingers ) I love the paint scheme , but I agree paint the antique lol it will look fab , to be honest I would have bought new maybe a white gloss bookcase and put the other somewhere else but then I’m very frivolous with my money 🤷*♀️

Qwerty - thanks! The reindeer is busy working at our local garden centre until Santa needs him to deliver presents on the 24th! They are lovely animals and I could spend ages just watching them.

I'll take pictures when the finishing touches are done - which may not be this side of Christmas!

I like the little bookcase - it's not too big and came from my MIL's house, so I think OH is quite attached to it. But it needs some TLC. The discussion about pictures has already started. OH is also saying we need more pictures in our living room. We've got 3 canvases up at the moment - one of the family on our Golden Anniversary, one of the original picture which became our GRU logo and a black and white Forest scene I took some years ago. OH would like to put up at least 3 more.

I called into my DS and Dil's yesterday and they have been decorating, Dil loves a lot of pics. When I went into the SRoom she has had arranged lots of pics. on one blank wall, they looked really good, they were mainly pics. of family. I think she is very good at dressing a room.

Your new decor sounds lovely Daisy. After Christmas I must pluck up the will to investigate getting ours done. We need new carpet too. Currently we have wallpaper which would have to come off and I don’t know what the walls are like underneath.I was surprised how soon you said your work was being finished.

Clover, thank you. I was a bit surprised that it was so quick, too, but there was no wallpaper to strip off and very little preparation needed. The decorators, a father and daughter, worked really hard and had two coats on before you knew it. The last day was just top coating the gloss and doing the bannisters. I'd definitely recommend them, but they're a little too far away for you. I hope you find someone, and the walls underneath the paper might be ok if you're going to paper again.

Oma - After you acrobatics last time, do be careful!

Plant - I love the final dressing bit, but never seem to have quite the right finishing touches!

We have decorated our hallway again this time in a much lighter smaller pattern and it looks so much bigger,I have chosen a pale blue & grey small stripe type design with white paint work it looks good even if I say so myself, the decorating in this bungalow is so easy.
Tomorrow John is doing the main wall in the bedroom I have chosen a gold leaf design so not overpowering at all

We have bought a Roman blind for our spare bedroom, the window faces the sun all day just about and the linings are awful as the curtains are never shut unless someone sleeps in there they are light and dark shades now when I do shut them , so decided on a blind, now OH wants to decorate it as the wallpaper doesn’t suit the blind should I let him ? Oh go on then 🤣 but after new year of course it’s new bedding then oops

We’ve just finished Hall, stairs and landing and the bathroom. Also a bedroom. Will have a break over Christmas and then maybe start somewhere else.

Avo - you're going to be busy.

Glamm - it's nice to ring the changes, and your hallway sounds lovely.

Qwerty - I love it. You buy a new blind and then redo the whole room! Have fun.
