    TLC for the Lawn

Our lawn isn't huge, but I do try to look after it. However this hot, dry summer, a female dog and a huge energetic puppy galloping around have left it looking pretty grim. I know the grass regrows very quickly, and it has in places. But there are a lot of other places where Eva has effectively killed it, and dogs pounding over it during the wet spring have made it very uneven.

So today it had a grooming session. OH scarified it with the tiller. We collected two huge bags of dead grass when we raked up, then I cut it twice - once on a high setting to get up more of the dead stuff, then again to take it down to a reasonable length. Then OH went over it again, this time with the aerator attachment on the tiller. We then raked up another 1 1/2 bags of dead grass. So now the lawn has great big patches of nothing, none of it looks green and I have to say it looks like a disaster area! And we ache all over.

We are going to reseed over the whole area on Wednesday before we go away, then hopefully it may have a chance to get started without 'help' from Eva or Cooper. I'm hoping some of the grass will germinate quickly to cover up some of the bare patches.

Daisy I think it has to get worse before it gets better. We don’t have a tiller and in the past I’ve tried to scarify with a rake. That is a killer ,but I don’t really bother nowadays. How on earth are you going to keep the dogs off the new grass? Can you fence it off somehow?

See now with Plastic grass you would have none of that , it doesn't die with dog pee , no mowing , no reseeding, no raking , just a hoover around and now and then a hose down where the dog pees , simple 😂😂😂

Clover - I'm hoping to get the seed down early Wednesday morning before we leave so Eva won't need to go on it, and after we get back it will hust have to take its changes - I can't fence it off.

Oma - where would all our lovely worms go?

Oma, never experienced plastic grass, where does the water go when you wash it or when it rains?

Hopefully in the long run you will have a beautiful lawn Daisy

Just soaks away Plant , if you have sand and soil under , we have on our Patio but its laid on concrete at bottom of garden and its sloped slightly to run through the fence onto the trees and grass behind the fence so never gets waterlogged

                Oma, it sounds well designed!

I don’t think we will ever have a good lawn. The drainage isn’t good and it’s heavy clay soil, plus in the winter neighbours’ trees block off all the sun. But it’s overrun with buttercups and the dead patches making it look like a wasteland. 😢
