I thought I was buying a simple straight forward compost caddy to sit on the kitchen worksurface to contain the peelings, cores and other bits of raw vegetables that can be added to the garden compost bin. It was pretty - white with dinky little 'soft touch' green feet and a green inner bucket. Little did I realise I needed to study for a degree in Compost Bin Handling with honours to use it!
The instructions:
To clean your caddy ... Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth and soapy water. Alternatively for a deep sanitised clean the caddy can be cleaned in the dishwasher. We suggest removing the inner bucket from the unit. To do this simply lift the lid and remove it from its hinges, this will then release the inner bucket free from the main outer bucket. This is a suggestion if you do not use a compost liner with your inner bucket. To put back in place after washing, insert the inner bucket inside of the outer bucket with the lid removed, then click the lid in place of the hinges. You will feel the hinge has resistance, this is to ensure the lid stays open when emptied or used.
To fit a compost liner ... The caddy can be used with or without a compost liner. If you choose to use a liner follow these simple instructions. The caddy inner bucket has a capacity of 2.5L, it is usual to have overhang when using liners but to avoid this unsightly overhang we suggest the lid is removed from its hinges and from the outer bucket. This allows you to remove the inner bucket as one piece. Load your liner into the inner bucket and overlap the open ends evenly around the edges. To avoid overhang of the bag gather the open end of the bag to one side, twist and hold in position then proceed to place the inner bucket inside the outer bucket. The liner will be concealed within the outer bucket. Replace the lid back into position using the hinge to secure into place.
