I've found the blossom smelling so much stronger this year & wondered if it was because if the slow Spring start? The lilac tree blossom perfume is so heady & I've never seen so much blossom on the tree. I planted a couple of Lilly of the Valley & bluebell plants from Mum's garden & they've taken over a large area of the border. That corner smells wonderful. The peonies are another example...the flowers are huge & a beautiful deep red. As for the magnolia...wow. I love nature.

Nature is wonderful Nana, and the garden at this time of year is lovely.
We have been able to sit in the garden quite a lot recently, with the good weather we have been having. Our peonies have just opened, large and crimson. The smell of the lilac tree is wonderful. I have been bringing some into the house, in living room and hallway, as the smell is so nice - and they look pretty of course!

Have you got any ants in your garden Gem? They seem to love the sap on the buds about to open on the peony plants.

I don't like the smell of geraniums, although I like to see them in terracotta pots.

The only other flowers I can think of that I dislike the smell of is Gardenias. They give me a headache.

I think all the spring flowers are smelling more strongly this year - our lilac usually has very little scent, but you can smell it right across the garden this year and it's got a lot of blossom on it.

Grauntie, I'm actually looking for a Ribes plant for our front garden because I love that curranty smell. If you come to visit I'll put a bag over its head so you can't smell it.

Plant - that is such a pity, as I know how much you love your garden. xx

My mum had a very good friend who didn't like cut flowers of any kind. My mum nearly always had fresh flowers in the house and couldn't understand her friend's dislike of them.

Although Mum liked being given flowers she said it was a shame they had to be cut, as the minute they were cut they started to die. It's the first time the iris has flowered this yr. It's beautiful too. A very delicate light blue.
