This morning the postman delivered a card to say there was a package for me at the main Post Office.Theywere unable to deliver it because there was a Customs charge of £12 odd to pay.I haven’t ordered anything that I can think off so am wondering what to do.The handling charge is £8 so the actual Customs charge must be £4. I think it is genuine in itself as I saw the postman bring it and I. could go and collect it in person though it’s rather a trek.If the charge was about £5 I’d pay up but £12 is a lot to pay for something which might turn out to be nothing,so I’m in a bit of a dilemma. What would you ladies do.?

Go to the post office and ask where its come from and if it has a company name on it , that way it may jog your memory .
Do not ring any number given as even though the post man delivered it it still could be a scam and you get charged a fortune for the phone call .
If you reject it it will just be returned to the sender at no charge to you ,Im not fat just 6ft too small

Can't see any reason why you should have to pay a customs charge, do you have any friends or family abroad Clover? You could ring the P.O but as Oma said don't use the number on the card, look the number up. Very strange and slightly concerning to be asked for custom charges when you are not expecting anything from abroad. What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

I agree with Oma, I would have to go Clover just to put my mind at rest and settle my curiosity . You can ask to see the parcel and don't have to accept it or pay. 'Shipping' does has to be paid for some things from the states, but how odd if you haven't ordered anything!

Clover have you ordered anything online, say from Amazon, or an online clothing site? It's not always obvious that the supplier is actually not in the UK.
If you haven't ordered anything and don't recognise the name I'd refuse to accept it. I agree about not using a given phone number - look up the PO number.
Presumably if it's attracted import duty it will say on the Customs label what the contents are.

We went to the other side of town to collect a parcel. There was much speculation as I couldn’t think what it could be and OH was grumpy about the extra journey. It was a small plastic container to put clothes washing liquid in the washing machine. Seemed quite random but we had bought a new washing machine so presumably it came via them.
