    Adding someone to house ownership

I am thinking specifically of adding a spouse, when the house is owned outright by the other spouse, no mortgage.
Anyone have experience or knowledge of this?
As with any other legal move, It is bound to be costly!

In the first instance, I'd ask the Citizen's Advice Bureau. They may say you absolutely must see a solicitor, but they may say you just need to contact the Land Registry and notify them of the change to joint ownership. The change should probably be amended in the parties' wills as well.

Gemini, check your house insurance, sometimes it includes legal advice. Mine does which I found very helpful recently with work contract changes. Not sure if it still applies but you used to be able to get 30 minutes free legal advice from a solicitor participating in the legal aid system.

I think the 30mins free.advice is still offered I would tend to use the same Solicitor that either holds your deeds or has been involved with the writing of your family wills in the past,it will cost a few £s but if you are confident in who you are using that makes all the difference to your peace of mind for the future.I think most of the cost will be with the Notary process as it has to be sealed prior to being registered with land registry I think.I may be wrong there as it is years ago my dad did this with my youngest sister.

We are buying the freehold of the flat and have already forked out about seven hundred quid and still waiting - this has BEN going on for eighteen months now......
