Has anyone bought a funeral plan recently?

Not a very pleasant subject but an important one. Do you have one or have you taken out Insurances to cover the cost?

Elisi in my opinion if you have savings I don't think you actually need one. I would have needed one in my previous life (or a paupers funeral) but now I much rather spend money on holidays or home improvements....

Are these the ones advertised on tv where somebody rich and famous says you'll want to leave money to cover your funeral costs and perhaps a bit left over for the family to share a pint of beer? It's wise, as always, to read the small print. There's usually a qualifying period (1 or 2 years) so if you pop your clogs before then your estate gets nothing. If you stop paying for any reason, you get nothing - there's no exit clause except the very final one. The returns generally are not great! The upside is the insurers take you on without a medical - but of course you still have to survive the qualifying period. They're called 'whole of life' policies for a reason. So no, we haven't got one!

We don't have one we have insurance but my MIL &FIL did pay for there funerals with the local undertakers about 3 yrs ago so when FIL died last year we just phoned them and everything was put in motion all very smoothly. they had already spoken with funeral director what casket they wanted and so forth so there was nothing left to chance , I must say they did a splendid job it was more stressful sorting Death certificate and paper work for his pensions etc

We both have death in service insurance with work which will more than cover funerals and more besides, will just have to make arrangements when we stop work

We have both paid for our funerals in full. The price includes the coffin, two cars to take the family to the crematorium , the service and even the announcement in the local newspaper. There may be a small charge on top at the time of our demise as the vicars fees could increase as also the newspaper announcement could also increase but that will only be a token payment.
These plans can be brought from Age Concern but we found them to be far more expensive than any of our local funeral directors . The plans are guaranteed and if the funeral director goes out of business another local funeral company will take over.
With the funeral plan where you pay in once a month if you start it at the age of 50 and live till your 80s ,more will be paid in than you get out . If you stop paying into the plan you loose all your money as my poor sister in law has found out!

No we haven't got a funeral plan.Hopefully we'll still have enough money left to pay for our funerals when we go. I have planned what I want at my funeral service though, OH says we can do anything with him as long as he's not cremated at Cambridge Crematorium. ( Right next to the busy A14 !).

That's where my dear late Dad was cremated WeeG. They lived in Needingworth at the time. I have to say it was all rather well done and as they were Methodists, a Minister who was also a personal friend of theirs took the Service. I remember going to pick up his ashes a few days later and that was in fact far worse for me personally.

I don't have a pre paid funeral plan, but I can speak highly of them. My OH is a retired funeral director. My mum took out a plan with OHs company a few years ago. Her funeral is planned and paid for. Less stress for me when the time comes as it is organised, in the way mum wants. We can only benefit financially as funeral costs go up ever year, and how ever long my mum lives we won't pay anything else.
My dad didn't have one, he thought his insurance would cover his funeral - it didn't go anywhere close to doing that.

I'm an advocate, but can't seem to bring myself to do it myself yet!!
