Why haven't people been told about this? About 4 years ago, a gentleman from age concern visited my in laws, to see if they were claiming everything they were entitiled to.
It turns out they weren't.When he asked them why aren't you claiming this and that, they told him they didn't know about it.Last edited by Nanto2girls; 16-05-2017, 07:00 PM.Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

That's ture, Gem, also that sometimes claiming for little known benefits is so complicated that it puts people off. I'm not suggesting this tax relief is difficult to claim for, just making a general point. Many thanks to GJ for providing the link."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

There are so many tax benefits and social benefits that we are not aware of until we delve deeply into the system aren't there, quite a few years ago when I was working for a very well known builder we where at a sales meeting and us Sales Negotiators where just chatting about salaries and tax over coffee before we went back to our sites and the subject of tax on work clothes came up,I never knew that we could claim for Dry-Cleaning of uniforms and cost of work shoes also for the interest (if any) for a bank loan towards the cost of your car payments if it was not supplied by work and any shortfall for petrol costs if it was below the tax mans estimate, you can claim every year and at the time I was able to claim back 7yrs costs which came to quite a tidy sum,it took quite a time to get all the information but certainly worth it in the end,it paid for a family holiday for 6 in the Canaries. We really should spend some time searching out these little known tax relief options the Tax man must be holding on to quite a tidy sum if truth be known.Keep Calm,You're Fabulous

Many, many years ago my FIL who was technically self-employed had a letter from his Tax Inspector telling him that he wasn't claiming for things he could and should claim for. You can't imagine that happening these days, could you!"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "
