    Pocket money for granddaughter

Last week, when we had GD here for a sleepover, I told her I was going to start giving her pocket money as she was now 7. 10 pence for each year, so 70p. The delight had to be seen to be believed. You would think I had arranged to transfer the contents of my bank account to her!!
She was very pleased, and wanted to save it all to get something big. I think in the end her parents advised her to save half and spend half.
Wednesday was the first pocket money day, and GD looked very happy when I handed her 70 pence in a little envelope.
Now I will have to remember to give it to her each week, although I expect she will remind me

I can imagine the delight, Gem. What will she save for, I wonder.

Zizi the price of children's magazines are shocking and usually with some cheap plastic toy attached , I won't buy them rather buy them a small toy or in GS1 case give him money to go swimming or bowling

I will ask her and report back. I think she did mention something, but I can't remember what it is.
I occasionally buy the GC a comic when looking after them. I agree they are a total rip-off, and the cheap plastic 'Gift' on the front attracts them.

I haven't bought magazines for a long time now. I don't buy toys either, just the pocket money but I do buy things like little Halloween items and novelty hand made biscuits/cakes etc,

LOL, I see you are all calling them magazines! My GD does too and looks at me as I am speaking a strange language when I mention a 'comic'

Similar to when the library lady and I were talking about anoraks (I forget why LOL) and GD was puzzled and asked what one was!

Gem - I can imagine GD's delight to be old enough to have her very own pocket money.

I always call things like the Beano comics, too, Gem. And for some strange reason the other day, I remembered how thrilled I was as a child when I got a windcheater! Does anyone remember them?

I have just put an anorak in the charity shop pile. I bought it a few years ago when I was doing a lot of site visits. Going to sites suited and booted makes you look a bit of an idiot and sort of marks you out as "them and us" so I usually wear (in winter) black jeans, big jumper and jacket along with steel toe caps and all the rest of the PPE. My goldie coloured anorak was perfect for a couple of really "dirty sites" In the old days. Big enough to wear a thick jumper, light enough not to impede movement even though it made me look like a doughboy! I haven't worn it for a couple of years due to the secondment so best to give someone else the warmth.

i used to call the magazines comics but the children didn't recognise that description and anyway, as Oma says they are very expensive and they all have pretty rubbish gifts at attached. I am happier giving pocket money and I think the children are too. Ben has been saving for a particular game and Joe is saving for an extremely expensive addition to his thingie. I know what it is called but I cannot remember, it is a particular camera they use a pro or something,

                        Zizi - is it a Go-Pro?

I'm a very sad non-fashionista and live in anoraks, trackkies, trainers and jeans!

Yes a Go Pro that is it. He got it for Christmas last year and it is very well used especially for his You Tube videos with Ben.

I wonder what she'll choose to buy? I think it will be a book. Funnily enough I got comics for two of my GSs a few weeks ago. No change out of ten pounds. I posted them to them & their mum's said they were really excited to get post for them. It made them feel special. Gone are the days of letters.

Nana, GD loves books, but she told me that she is saving for some Shopkins. Silly little plastic collectables on the go at the moment!

I can imagine your GS's delight to get comics through the post . When my GS1 had chickenpox his baby cousin was days old. I kept away from GS1 so I could help DD2 with the new baby. I took GS1 a comic and some sweets and left them on the doorstep. DD took GS out to the door once I had driven off, and he was really excited. As far as he was concerned they had come through the post
