Zizi - I was wondering about how cash machines would handle them!

Nanto - perhaps we should wash them before use to get rid of the 'newness' of them - a bit like new underwear or something. Perhaps a rinse in fabric conditioner would help.

    Has anyone had any yet?

Not yet but as I haven't been shopping for a couple of days that's not really surprising.

Daisy if we do wash the new notes do you think we should hang them out on the line to dry?

Clover - LOL. You'd have to peg them on securely - wouldn't want them blowing away! That reminds me of when we were first married, OH worked in a bank and one day a week he used to 'do' two sub-branches - ie provide a counter service. I can't remember how it happened but all the notes got wet and he borrowed pegs from the pub next door to the sub-branch and hung them on string to dry. When customers came in to get cash he had to find the driest ones to hand out. Security? Oh, yes, he had a Guard with him - a lovely elderly gentleman of about 80!

Nanto - and I'm sure someone will be daft enough to buy them.

I think some folks will buy them, after all, they are offering free p&p. , and some will want them straight away, we will wait until we get some while out shopping
            or whenever.

Daisy that's priceless. Made me chuckle. The good old days eh!

I suppose the people who are daft enough to pay over the odds for the new notes are hoping if they get "first editions" they might be worth something in the far future.

You'd think the Royal Mint would have thought of collectors, Clover, and issued specially made gold plastic ones!!

I think they expect the polymer ones to last about 5 years - twice as long as the current paper ones. So after 5 years will they will all have to go to landfill, or are they recyclable?

OH went to the cash machine today for me & I have now got 2 x £5 notes in my purse with the rest of the notes. It's rather weird I must admit. They are slippy & because I'm used to paper notes they don't feel right somehow. When we changed from old to new money we all had a laugh saying how it was like toy money. Now we have plastic real money! They are really cleverly designed tho'. There's a clear 'window' on the left hand side where there's a gold coloured line drawing of 'big ben' (no not the bell, but you know what I mean). I'm booked in for a cut & colour this afternoon so they won't be in my purse for long.

I haven't seen any of them yet, Gem, but apparently there was a long queue to get the first ones issued.
