    Bemused .... !

Bills are a sad necessity of life and they arrive, you pay them and that's that.

But today we've had the bill for our allotment rental and it's made us smile.

It's for the grand total of £10.450000000000001.

Do we round it up or down!!

I don't think they'd mind if you rounded it down

I would pay the exact fee Daisy, or they might claim you underpaid ... and threaten you with court action!

I don't think they would mind either Daisy, after all it's nearly Christmas.

We were talking about bills last night, with our eldest who moved into his new home last week. He is so pleased that he is out of rented accommadation and buying a house, he says he doesn't mind about the bills. He always paid his bills for the old house but he says it feels different now. Mind you, he might change his mind in 12 months time.

Couldn't decide what to get him for a housewarming present, he said he doesn't want anything. Anyway, I know it will sound a bit odd for a present, but we are going to pay for an alarm system to be fitted.

Nanto - that's a brilliant house warming present - peace of mind and lower insurance premiums. I bet your DS will be really delighted.

What a brilliant idea Nan2 and well done your boy getting on the property ladder it does make them feel they have achieved something doesn't it,I can see the difference in DS1 since he bought his first home, just waiting for DS2 to reach his deposit target won't be long now I think.

It's so hard these days for our children to get that first home of their own. Unless you earn lots of money, getting on the second rung is just as hard as my DS2 is finding.

Daisy when we had closed the shop and both got jobs and moved out of our lovely house we got a tax bill for £0.01. I ignored it. Who is going to worry about a tax bill for 1p? We got several reminders. Eventually we got a red bill with a court threat. I got through to the tax office eventually (and I cannot tell you how much time was spent on trying to talk to someone) and was told that it was an automated system and there was only one way to stop it without getting a county court judgement against us. Pay it. I didn't in my heart believe this but sent a cheque for ONE PENCE. They cashed it.

Zizi - this is the crazy thing about everything being computerised. Common sense goes out of the window and if the computer says you owe 1p, then you have to pay it. I know you'd had quite enough trauma in your lives at that time, but if it had gone to court it would have been interesting to see the adjudication! Although you definitely didn't want to risk a CCJ against you, I know. Just think what that 1p cost you in time and frustration, and the tax office in administrative costs.

I don't know much about computer programming, but I'm sure it can't be that hard to have a line of code that says if the amount is below £1 ignore it - or something like that.
