Do you celebrate it? We used to have a florist and gift shop (eighteen years ago now) and this was one of the biggest times of the year but when I see the ads on the TV for 12 red roses for £5 In supermarkets I remember that even back then our roses, even single, and anything red would cost a darned sight more than that! Thank goodness we are out of that now. It used to be a very hard week with 3am starts and such a lot of rushing around and mess in our little shop,
We we do celebrate but these days we tend to eat in. This year we will have rack of lamb, roasted Mediterranean veggies and new potatoes. We will start with avocado, fresh prawns and asparagus and I will get a brioche bread and butter pudding to have with cream or custard although usually we end up eating pudding the day after. I have a good big stock of fizz both real champagne and prosecco. I have bought husband a very unromantic gift of a warm coat. He is not a person who particularly feels the cold but I noticed yesterday when we went to the butcher/baker/candlestick maker he wore his work uniform coat (it was bruddy cold and trying to snow) and realised that he doesn't actually have a good warm coat any more (this after doing a wardrobe clear out for the charity shop a week or so ago).
I bought him him a great hat for Christmas (all that is missing is the corks on strings!) and he will look quite the man of mystery in his hat and great coat!
