The sculpture alone is wonderful Gem and where they have him he's facing the Cenotaph it looks like he is guarding it , but the pebbles add a special touch for Remembrance day

What an amazing tribute Oma it always makes me fill up when I see something like this and I remember the boys who served with my two sons who never came home from Iraq & Afganistan and wonder how their families are coping with their loss.

Oma - how beautiful, and how touching. We must never forget the ultimate sacrifice made by so many.

Our son was out of the army before Iraq and Afganistan, but i always think of the friends he lost when he served in Northern Ireland.

                    Beautiful tribute Oma.

granma2aj - I didn't know the statue was based on an individual soldier. That makes it even more poignant.

This is so moving. Oma I had no idea your OH was injured in Northern Ireland. What strong women, wives, mothers, we have on here. ❤

Yes Nan he now walks with Crutches or uses his wheel chair , it was a very long time ago now but lasting damage to his spine and insides , getting older doesn't help Arthritis etc sets in but he has no regrets apart from he had to leave the Army that was a big blow at the time , but as I say a long time ago now life goes on for the fortunate it's the ones that didn't come home alive that we should think about I feel blessed .
