Halloweeen

As you probably know I am a fan of Halloween (I know many of you are not!)

I organised Halloween parties for my friends in our garage as a young teen, and gave all 3 DD's Halloween parties as children. It made them very popular as they were not as common as they are now

This year Halloween falls on a Friday. I won't see any GC as it is half term and they will be doing their own Halloween stuff. My OH is NOT a fan so we can't have a party of our own.. which would be my choice.
However GSs 2 and 3 will be here for the day the day before, so we will celebrate Halloween on that day
My friend gave me huge pumpkin which she grew in her garden, and we will get the decorations out of the loft, and have some Halloween treats and crafting.

I don't think I will bother with the Halloween Trick or Treat sweets this year as we won't have any children here that day. It's fun going to the door with them. I would just leave the sweets outside as I did once when GS1 and I were out trick or treating. Sadly some of the local teenagers are complete pests however and they will just take the lot (as they did last time, and stole and threw away my cauldron Luckily someone noticed it so we got it back) So I wont leave them out any more.

Gem, it sounds as though you are going to make the most of your Hallowe'en celebrations despite not seeing your GCs on the actual day. Are you going to carve the pumpkin?

I remember the cauldron incident. Honestly, some people just seem to go out of their way to be destructive and anti-social. I'm glad you got it back eventually.

When I worked for a while in a comprehensive school we had a day's holiday on 1st November for the Saints (All Saints/All Hallows). That was always welcome.

I suppose when we were children we were all gearing up for Bonfire night, which was always a big event. Even if you didn't have a bonfire you'd make a guy and have a few fireworks. For years when our children were growing up we had a street party for 5th November, which was great fun, although I seem to remember it was always freezing cold.

As you know my DD and myself are very much into Halloween, even B enjoys it,
We decorate the hall and the outside of the house and we are the only ones in the cul-de-sac that does,
We already have all the sweets in ,
Around here they only knock if there is decorations or a pumpkin outside.
The little ones start arriving about 4.30 till about 5.30 then we get the ones a bit older 9-10 yr olds ,
We hardly ever get bigger ones and it's usually all quiet by 7 ,
My decorations are in the spare room all ready.

My DD decorates the whole downstairs and every year she had great parties but as GS got older her wanted to go trick or treating with his friends and now he's at uni she doesn't bother with a party but we miss it still ,

Oma, that made me laugh. It makes me thankful that 1st November was always a holiday in the school I worked at.

We have a similar trick or treat code - a pumpkin or a lantern outside means there are treats.
