We didn't 'do' Halloween at all when I was a child, but Bonfire Night was the thing! Collecting wood and anything flammable for the bonfire for weeks, scrounging clothes to make a guy, and the excitement of choosing your box of fireworks. The shop next door to ours sold them. It never occurred to us it might be dangerous (semi-detached shops) or even that perhaps selling fireworks from a shop that had a huge paraffin storage tank in the back garden wasn't ideal!

Halloween wasn’t around when my children were small, I believe it was just an American practise. GC used to carve pumpkins and trick or treat. As we live up a track we don’t get children calling.

Now it's time to prepare for assault by fireworks. I hate the way they go on for days - and it clashes with Diwali as well this year.
