    Valentine's Day in Lockdown

I'm sure none of us have got exciting plans for today, but have you had any cards, flowers, chocolates or other presents?

We have had one very sweet card chosen and written by GD2 because she loves us so much. She gave it to us on Friday, and I have to admit I could hardly read it because my eyes got all leaky. GD1 signed it as well, of course, but mummy whispered that GD2 had chosen the card.

Aww, Daisy, that card must mean so much! Keep it for ever.

We exchanged cards, as we always do. I don't think anyone feels that romantic when they are stuck in with each other so much, to be brutally honest

I found the last cards we bought for each other and put them up this morning.
In the oven is a small chicken and will have it later with tender steamed broccoli & carrots, some profiterolls will be shouting me from the fridge later.
Delivered yesterday to my DDs house was a box from Donald Russell containing 2 x Beef Wellingtons Alpine Fries and creamed mushrooms also 2 x chocolate filled hearts they are a really good company and the meat and meals I order for special occasions are excellent.
Enjoy the day ladies and to those ladies who are alone as I am think of all the loving years that are in your memory forever.xx

Glamm - my eyes have gone leaky again - what a beautiful wish for all our grannies who are alone. I'm so pleased you have still got the cards you and J sent to each other.

Oma - I think this is true of so many events at the moment - they just don't seem important, but your DD's 40 birthday is special. I hope she manages some sort of celebration.

Gem - our Valentine's day is a bit different from everyone else's. I have related the story before, so don't read ahead if you don't want to!

My OH was working in Southampton and he was often working late into the evening. This particular year the 14th was especially busy and both he and a colleague were still in the office at 10 pm! He had to stop for petrol on the way home and the garage forecourt was full of flowers - loads of them. He glanced at his watch - it was the 14th!! He'd forgotten Valentine's Day completely. He paid for the petrol and bought a huge bouquet of flowers and got back in the car. He realised his colleague had forgotten as well so rang him to remind him. His colleague's reply was along the lines of he was a complete plonker because it was actually the 14th November!!

I was watching tv when he got in. He put the flowers in my lap saying "don't ask, just don't, OK"!!! So our Valentine's day is 14 November ever since. It's probably a good idea as we had had two dreadful ones a few years previously. On one DS2 who was about 13 was admitted to hospital for emergency surgery, and two years to the day he was rushed in again with appendicitis.

We never bother with Valentines day.
Originally Valentine cards were supposed to be from a secret admirer.
But on friday DS1 called in. He had bought me some Valentine flowers while he was in town.
The first time in my 69 years i have had flowers for Valentines day.

Nan2, when I first married, aged 21 I didn't send my OH a card on Valentine's Day,3 months after our wedding. He sent me one and as I didn't have one to give him I then made one, using a Snoopy cartoon from a newspaper as the design (no computers and printers in those days!) I sent him one from then on, and my present OH and I have always done the same. Mum and Dad never exchanged them so I just didn't realise people did once married!
                      Lovely flowers
Daisy you have told that story before, but it is so funny it's worth repeating
Glamma, how sweet that you did that for your DD, I saw on FB how grateful they are. It's lovely that you still have yours and John's cards.

Nothing doing here, I don’t ever remember having Valentines flowers or chocs from OH! The only romantic thing he ever said was “EE lass, if you don’t know I love you by now, it’s a poor do” !

Grauntie - Aww, bless him. My OH is a bit like that - he tells the dog he loves her more often than me!
