No Halloween for me this year

My house is a Halloween Free zone this year.
No pumpkins have been carved, no sweeties bought, no decorations brought down from the loft.

The last two years GS1 spent Halloween here. He loved greeting the trick or treaters at our door, then when his mummy got back from work the three of us went trick or treating locally. In our village no one knocks unless there are Halloween signs that you are in the spirit.
This year it falls on GS1's day to be with his daddy, and he is having a Halloween/Birthday party at his house tomorrow.

My OH actively dislikes all things Halloween and as I will be at my mum's until gone 6, then we are going out tonight, there seemed no point.

I hope to have Happy Halloween next year to make up for it!

Gem - it's a pity missing out when you enjoy it so much. You'll have to plan something extra special for next year. xx

I'm with your OH - I don't like Halloween, but I do like to see the children getting excited and enjoying it.

Like you nobody knocks at your door in this village unless you've got something to show you're happy to have little visitors. We put a row of lights and lanterns up our path, and have a large quantity of treats. I'll save some for you.

I like your DD's style Oma

Were it not Thursday I would have a pumpkin lantern a few decs, and sweeties ready. Most of the children, with families, are out before I will be back from my mums though (and OH won't answer the door) and I don't mind missing the teenagers who come later!

We won’t be doing Halloween here, mostly because last year the older children round here were quite aggressive, a lot of neighbours had a lot of verbal abuse so the door will remain firmly closed !
They spoil the whole occasion for the little one’s

We're not doing it this year either. I normally have lots of sweets at the ready but last year OH saw a minibus full of children pull up into our estate. A step too far for me. Cheeky parents weren't even with them. Just the driver.

I do love seeing pics of our GC dressed up tho.

            Thanks for the ecard admin.

Oma - love your lights, and your scary DD.

We've had a constant stream of little ghouls, witches, grim reapers, spacemen, skeletons, and a tiny little spider girl. I've just posted on our road's FB group saying how polite they all were, saying thank you and were a credit to their parents.

We had a good time last evening - very very very loud! I put a post on the Hub asking what the protocol was for T&T as we usually just dish out sweets to the little ones. Helpful answers and then a neighbour, Natalie emailed me to invite the boys as they are st ours on Thursdays to the Hallowe’en party she and her friend organise at St Thomas church hall down the road. Word of mouth invites only. £3 and all money goes the Night Shelter St T’s do every winter. She’s done it for three years when her children’s friends were too many to fit in their house. So off we went. About 40 children and assorted parents - a few gatecrashers ‘Oh, I heard there was a party’ but it went well albeit with a deafening noise. All the usual games and then off went T&Ting on our road and the other three which form a rectangle. Lots of pumpkins out the fronts and some super efforts from some houses and they all got far too many sweets. DS arrived for the last 20 minutes getting exasperated with GS1 for forgetting his stuff, arguing, etc. He’s just a chip off the old block. Anyway, they disappeared eventually and we had an avocado and prawns because I’d done four hours of their ironing as well and was ‘jiggered’ as we say in’t north and too tired to cook anything.

Oh that sounds a good night Sum1!
Definitely a night off cooking needed though.

What a good evening, Sum1, and others will benefit from the funds going to the night shelter. Avocado and prawns sounds a very acceptable meal to me. Two of my favourite things.

I hope my DIL1 doesn't ever hear about your 4 hours of ironing though - I can't even get round to getting mine done.

It sounds as though you had a really good time Sum1 and what a good cause to collect for.
We had a quiet night here we are top of a cul-de-sac and get no one passing as such and with us all being supported housing there are no children in residence. My DGS took my 2 x GGCs to a party in their local park it was their first time and enjoyed getting dressed up as a pumpkin and a scary witch.
Unfortunately in our area there has been a lot of media coverage regarding anti-social behaviour on what they call mischief night it puts a bad light on the area lets hope people realise not all Merseysiders are tarred with the same brush.
We just have to get through Bonfire night now and keep our animals safe and sound because I can see it going on until the week-end,
luckily my dogs are OK and don't fret its just Oliver I worry about as it is so hard to keep him indoors.
