    May Day

May Day or Early Spring Bank Holiday as it is sometimes known is a bit of a non holiday really, and a bit wasted I always think sandwiched between Easter and the late May Bank Holiday. As my youngest DD was born on May 5th, it has sometimes been her birthday party day.

This year it is a big day for our family. DD3 and SIL's homecoming from Canada celebration! OH and I last saw them in October, the rest of the family haven't seen them since early June last year.

Gem - I don't think the day will be wasted this year! I'm sure you'll be waving the flags and celebrating DD3 andSIL's homecoming.

The May Bank holiday seems particularly irrelevant this year with Easter being so late. I have always thought it would be better to have another summer Bank holiday - either towards the end of July when the schools break up, or a two day August Bank holiday. Or alternatively an end of October bank holiday to co-incide with the Autumn half-term.

Gems happy May days ahead for you and your family, we have never really celebrated the May bank holiday the only time I can remember May Day festivities was when I was at school and we made up our Maypole not on a village green by the way but around a lamp-post at the top of our Street we used to use paper streamers to dance around with but they never lasted very long.
This year we are celebrating OH's birthday and GGSs 1st birthday on 2nd May (to-morrow) so we are having a joint tea & cake party on Sunday

Glamma, at my 2 older DD's primary school they did maypole dancing each summer. One of the teachers lived in village which had a maypole, and the top 2 classes danced. Complicated looking dances, really well. It was so lovely to watch, and the children, including the boys, seemed to enjoy it.

We are looking forward to Monday
We will be at my DDs dads house for a Welcome Home bash for DD3 and SIL. All the family (minus my mum who doesn't like big gatherings any more and will prefer to see her GD on her own when she gets back, and SIL1 who is away) Food, drink, laughs, hugs and tears are on the agenda!
DD1 has organised a Happy Face cake. You may remember the Sad Face cake we did for their departure!

They used to do maypole dancing on our green, perhaps they still do. Lovely to watch.

Very exciting plans afoot for DDS and Sil's return.

I taught my Yr 2s Maypole Dancing every year for a loooong time! We had a Maypole in the bowels of the school which got carted round and about depending on where we were practising! We were a fixture at the Summer Fair along with country dancing. Great fun!

Gem - I hope we can see some of your Happy Faces photos from your planned celebrations on Monday. I bet you can't wait. xx

WeeGranny - what a lovely thing to do at this time of year. I'm sure the children had loads of fun with their maypole dances.
