    Bonfire Night(s)

Halloween is over. Just a few hours to draw breath before the fireworks start!

Bonfire night seems to go on for a couple of weeks these days, and I dread it. Poor Eva is terrified. On the obvious days when I'm sure there will be someone having a bonfire party in the garden I walk her early in the day, feed her early and make sure she's been in the garden before it gets dark. I give her Rescue Remedy and she has a thunder coat, and she still ends up a quivering wreck, panting and shaking. Part of the problem is not knowing what's going to happen! One back garden party last year started at 11pm!

What do others think about fireworks?

Very dangerous and should not be sold to the general public only to qualified people. Poor Eva, I hope it will not be too bad for her

      I have mixed feelings.
I love fireworks and loved the family bonfires we had when I was a child and when my children were.
However I hate that they are being set off from Halloween until the 5th and after. I know how scary it can be for pets.

I would like to see a lovely display on bonfire night though, but OH is not as keen. We may drive out and watch one of the big displays from the warmth of our car!

Poor doggies our Dd has 2 dogs and the little one doesn’t stop shaking for days ,the least little noise.
I like an organised bonfire and a few pretty fireworks but not bangers if they abolished bonfire night it wouldn’t bother me, the fact that Guy Fawkes came from Yorkshire is infamous in the area

I think this day and age it should only be organised displays ,
We have a problem with Fire works at all hours as we have a Fireworks factory /shop on the industrial estate about 5 mins away from us so people are buying fireworks from there for weeks ,

Luckily Storm doesn't mind them he sits at the window and watches them

They really shouldn't be sold to the public but I can understand if you have children and cant get to a display why should the little ones miss out , so its a double edged sword isn't it ,

I think the bangers are the worst, along with the rockets that bang.

I wouldn't want to stop any child looking forward to Bonfire night and fireworks either in their garden or a public display. What I really hate is the unpredictability - they seem to go on for a couple of weeks. Then more and more people seem to have fireworks at Christmas, at New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and at times, just because they feel like it.

It's not just pets who are terrified - our wildlife suffers too.

I don't mind them though I don't get enthused about them as I used to! Always used to have a Bonfire party when DC were little. However, I think they should only be allowed on 5th November and not on any other night. Same goes with those fireworks let off for the end of Eid and Divali. Poor old doggo was frightened badly by one which went off very close by a couple of years ago and the slightest bang sees him scurrying for somewhere to hide now.

For the past 4/5 years we have gone to an organised firework display.
Hubby did ask if i wanted to go this year, told i would if he wants to go.
i do think they start selling to the public too early though.

Fireworks have ben going off here for several evenings now and to be honest we get to hear then quite often as the hotel down the road has weddings most weekends and I would say at least every 6 - 8 weeks there is a firework display. Surprisingly out cat isn’t usually too bothered about them unless the very loud ones goes off close by. She is always indoors before it gets dark.

Our cats don't seem too bothered either Mimi. One is deaf and one nearly deaf, so only one has good hearing!
If we go out around firework season we make sure all curtains are closed and leave a radio on for them, hoping it may mask the noise a bit.

I have been thinking about all those pets, quivering because the the fireworks. They might look beautiful, but they are VERY loud this evening. (The fireworks, that is!)
