    Halloween with Grandma

Last year Halloween happened to fall on the day I collect GS1 from school. I asked if I could bring him back here so we could go to the door together for all the trick or treaters. We did, and then when his mummy came from work the 3 of us went around to a few houses doing a bit of trick of treating ourselves. In our village you only go to houses which have lit pumpkins and other evidence of wanting to take part. Lots of families do. GS loved it and wanted to do the same this year.
A year is a long time when you are not quite 5, as he was then. However he has remembered and very much wants to be here for Halloween.
It falls on half term this year. DD had altered her work days so that he can come here on the 31st. We can do some rock hiding and hunting in daylight, be prepared for trick or treaters after dark, then go out with DD later.
I love Halloween, so am happy for this excuse, as my OH thinks it all a ridiculous waste of time!
GS asked what I will be dressed as this year! As I only have a witches hat, that will be it

Sounds like a super day Gem. We don’t get any Trick or Treaters in this road which is a great shame. Plenty of Grands here who would join in the fun.

Round here we put pumpkins or lights out if we're happy to have trick or treaters. I don't particularly want to dress up (I hate dressing up!) but I love seeing the youngsters enjoying themselves. There are usually a few groups, all with parents hovering at the end of the drive!

Gem - GS1 will enjoy it even more this year, I'm sure.

Gem - even the supermarket seemed full of Hallowe'en themed things yesterday.

I love to see the children enjoying Halloween. Unfortunately my grandkids don’t live near enough for me to enjoy it with them. In my previous house I used to always get trick or treaters, but since I have been in my bungalow I don’t get any, which is such a shame. I will still buy some treats, just in case! Then I will eat them myself if I don’t get any callers. I will get chocolate this year, I prefer that to sweets or lollies! lol πŸ‘»πŸ’€

Sunshine - we always get goodies we'll eat if the trick and treaters don't call. I also always get some Dairy- and Gluten-free treats, because I know how disappointing it is for children on restricted diets when they can't join in with the other children.

This year I am defying tradition and dressing as a black cat, not a witch!
I have cat ear headband and mask, and a cat tail LOL. I will wear black trousers and top. GS approves of my choice.

It went well and we both enjoyed our day. GS made a cute skeleton.
He was very impatient for it to be dark and time for trick or treating though!
Last year Halloween was a school day. By the time we had done the half hour drive home, GS changed into his costume, and we had tea it was time to light the pumpkin and wait for the visitors. This year being half term he was with me all day so had a long wait!

He had 2 other Halloween invitations, so I suspect that next year , at 7, he will stay locally to him and do something with school friends.

Gem, I'm glad you and GS1 had a lovely time. Perhaps you will get an invite to his Halloween next year.

My GS2 went off trick and treating with 3 young ladies! But he's nearly 14, so hopefully you and GS will be able to share your Halloweens for a few more years.
