    Mother's Day

It will be Mother's Day on Sunday March 10th.

I have always felt sorry for anyone that first Mother's Day without their mum and now it is my turn. It will be 11 months after mum died so not raw, but I'm still feeling sad about it. I don't always see my DDs on the day but always saw mum.
How much harder for Glamma's family as it is more recent and she so much younger

There is something nice to look forward to though.

DD2 is hosting a Mother's Day family brunch. That should be a nice day

Mothering Sunday has always been low key in our family, I usually get a card from DD and DS.

I've never made a big 'do' of it, especially since our sons were grown up. I don't "mother" them in the sense of looking after them in any way, and I think it's more important for them to do whatever necessary to make sure their own children treat our DILs to something nice.

Having said that, they both always give me a card and flowers or a small gift, which is very sweet, but I honestly wouldn't mind if they didn't.

But Gem, I understand how you feel - it's another of those very sad "firsts", isn't it, and even more raw for Glamm's family, and I'm sure we will all be thinking about them.

It's my DIL1's birthday on the 6th, but sometimes the dates have clashed and she's had a double celebration.

I always say to DD not to bother but she always brings me something ,
im not into likes of mother / Father’s Day stuff ,
I have always felt sorry for little ones at school who don’t have a Mother or father when they are all making cards .

My mum always made me feel I had to spend mothers day with her, it wasn't really an option not to. I was most unpopular the year I saw her on an alternative day!

Therefore I have always made it clear to my girls that there was no obligation at all to see me on Mothers Day. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
I know they do like to get us presents as we take care of the children a lot. A way of saying thank you, which is very nice

GS1's dad is not the type to bother to help his son with even a birthday card and present for his mum let alone Mother's Day now they are separated, so that falls to me now. I don't mind but I must remember!

Gem, it must have been difficult some years to meet your Mum' wishes and perhaps any or all of your DDs wanting to see you. Your brunch this year is a lovely idea and I'm sure your DD is delighted to be able to do it for you. xx

I’m with you all. I never made anything of it but both DD and DS (probablyDiL!) send flowers or a small gift which I do appreciate. I love having at least a small vase of flowers in the house and it’s the only time I’m given them. DH is a wonderful husband but the thought of buying flowers would send him into toxic shock.

Sum1, I had to smile at your comment about your husband and flowers. The last time my OH gave me flowers was some years ago, for Valentine's Day. The only trouble was it was the 14th November!

As I have said before, no flowers ever from my OH like your OH Sum.

Good morning. We’ve never made a huge deal out of Mothers Day really. I get a card and a small gift, usually flowers or a plant from my DD and DS and I usually go over to DDs for a take away which is what I’m doing later. I’ve told them not to worry about it but I still get them, so it’s very nice.

Hubbies and flowers! P was the same, in fact the last flowers I had from him ( and the first for years) was just before he passed away, they meant an awful lot at the time.
