School, playgroup and nursery Christmas plays and concerts

It is that time of year when our little ones are busy practising for the end of term Christmas shows.
As my GD is in Key Stage 2 now, no more plays for her, just a carol concert. No idea if I will be going to that, or when it is! I have been very lucky in seeing all 3 of the Christmas plays she was in.
GS1 will be a shepherd in his first school nativity play, and has 2 lines! I am free to go that day, but DD was going to ask if there was a limit on numbers. There is at GDs school and they have 2 performances, so I imagine there will be at GS1's with only the one performance. I will go if allowed

The littlest CG is too young to be in anything!

Are your GC having a starring role this year?!

That's a really good idea Oma. After all grandparents love to see our grandchildren in them, and considering all the childcare we provide these days, should be considered by schools.
GDs school is 2 tickets per child, but you can ask for extras and wait until close to the date to find out, and luckily we got one each time and I was able to go

Hectic time for me at this time of the year when I was a Teaching Assistant. Making costumes and scenery and decorating the school with children's work. I used to love listening to them singing.

            I don't know!

Both GSs are in secondary school, and I've no idea if they have carol concerts - I must ask.

GD2 is singing lots of songs but when I ask her if they are for the playgroup Nativity play she says they're not, but as they rehearse in the hall and their Nativity is in the adjacent church she may not realise. GD1 has a carol concert, I think. If it's in the school I'm sure there will be restricted numbers, but if it's in the church maybe not.

I always used to go to GSs Christmas events - DIL got 2 seats for each of 2 performances, and since their other gran's OH was caretaker at the school, they got seats as well. So we were all able to go.

Plant - I wish I'd known you when my sons were little - if they were anything other than a shepherd I was sunk!

Eldest g/d has her nativity play on Tuesday 2 showings Dd and OH are going in the morning and she is hoping to get 2 tickets for us in the afternoon performance but it’s first come first served by text only, they will text those who have asked for more tickets and the first ones to text back get them, only problem is we have the twins which we can take with us they are very good kids in public but you can’t always concentrate as easily
The Twins have theirs on 19 th they are stars in this production but it’s at 5 pm just when traffic is bad and it’s an awful place to park at the best of times we’re not sure we will get tickets for that either, dil thought that seeing as she had 2 children at nursery she would get double tickets but it doesn’t work like that lol, we also by then have eldest g/d for school hols so if we do get tickets Dd is coming from work early to babysit her own Dd whilst we go, as she is staying overnight complicated tell me about it 🤨

Just had a text to keep 10th free eldest g/d is singing at local Town Hall such a social life we lead, but happy to be involved there are so many grandparents who don’t get this opportunity

Qwerty - it all adds to the fun - and the stress.

GS1 is very taken with the nativity story, and taking part in the play.
He told me it is actually a true story. I said yes, from a very long time ago. He said 'It is a real true story, and it is about God, so if it is real then God is real! I believe it.' He said this in a very emphatic voice.
I got the impression he was trying to get an opinion from me.
I said 'That is good, E, you can believe what you want to. Everyone can. No one should tell anyone what they can or can't believe'.
I think he was satisfied with that one

I attended our eldest g/d nativity play, it was very good a modern take on it, as a sort of News at Ten theme where shepherds were interviewed about what they had seen as were the 3 Kings, Joseph and Mary but there was no manger or cot no baby Jesus no birth just a build up to it, I understood that that was what a nativity play was about the birth of Jesus I am not that religious but seemed odd, nevertheless enjoyable the kids loved singing and dancing worked really hard as did the staff, tomorrow they take their play to the local residential home for the elderly hope they understand it lol

Gem - that was a very good way of answering GS1's questions.

Qwerty - I should think the teachers at school get a bit fed up doing exactly the same each year, so they've done well to come up with a different angle, but I agree, it's not exactly a Nativity play. I think the residents at the home will enjoy it no matter what.

GS did so well in his play!
The class was hit by chickenpox, so it was a depleted cast
GS had the lines of all 3 shepherds (Not 2 as I said in Chatbox) and the innkeeper had to play one Wise Man, who delivered only one present! All 3 original Wise Men were ill.
All the children did so well.
When I collected GS from school this afternoon, his teacher told me he was Superstar of the Day. She said she chose him because he did so very well in the play, and so confident, considering when he started in the class he was most reluctant to speak up in a group at all

If you are one of my Facebook friends you can see short video of him and his dance moves
