For Christmas I got ...

I know we all spent a lot of time and put thought into presents for our nearest and dearest family and friends, but what about you!

Did you have a wish list, or did you have fantastic surprises? What was your favourite?

I was very lucky and got lots of nice things Family and friends say I am easy to buy for! Earrings, anything cat related, nice smellies, candles, pretty socks, chocolate, especially Lindt. The list acceptable to me is endless.
I got all this these things, and more.
Hard to choose my favourite thing.
A framed professionally taken photo of GS1 looking angelic and gorgeous ceramic salt and pepper cats have to be up there though! Also some Jo Malone shower gel, as I have never had anything Jo Malone!

My favourite was afternoon tea at a very posh local hotel.

I was also very lucky. I had a voucher for myself and OH for afternoon tea in our local ( very posh ) hotel. We are going to do this in the spring / summer as the tea room looks on to the beautiful gardens of the hotel .
I also had several bottles of wine (hic) , gloves, scarf, notebook, CD, gift cards, biscuits and 7, yes 7 bars of luxury soap. ( Are they trying to tell me something ) Shower gel, body lotion, hand cream
DIL made up a hamper for myself and OH with all sorts of goodies, tea with mugs, coffee , more wine ( double hic) beer for him, yet more biscuits .Box of chocs .
We also have gift cards given to the both of us and we plan to use these for things we want for the garden.
And Christmas isn't over for us yet. DD is up here tomorrow and that means more presents.... would it be selfish to hope its not more soap ?

I didn't want much, have all I need but did get some nice things anyway. A pretty top from DD and new covers for my iphone, chocs, smelliest. The best thing was from DGD...she has organised a night at the lovely country inn where she is chef for me and DH, in their best room with breakfast and dinner. We have been saying we will go there for ages so now all we have to do is pick a date. It will be lovely . DH and I decided not to buy each other anything, we have everything we want but we did go out yesterday and great ourselves to a new TV. He has wanted a bigger one for ages (not too big, can't stand huge tvs) so that was our joint Christmas gift

I got smellies, mini jars of lovely jams and marmalades, lovely cushion with a cat on the front, Mug with a cat on it. My daughter bought me a dyson cordless because I have been seriously ill just before Christmas (to make life easier now I am well again), And my son got me a photo of my eldest grandson and his new wife put onto canvas---beautiful. (grandson now lives in USA, his wife comes from California). My sister and myself agreed not to buy for each other this year because we have both been poorly and not able to get to shops for Christmas. And I have given up chocs because of my diabetis--so no choc pressies this year.

I got two bunches of "garage" flowers , 2 jars of nice honey , special coffee and two Catherine Kitson tumblers ( I only drink water ,tea or coffee) , a 1/2 cwt bag of potatoes and some very nice chocolates

I got a new iPad only that was a joint present as the old one is very old and is frequently in danger of being chucked out of the window. It is joint because I do all the banking, the shopping, the holiday booking etc. So it is an "us" present although I use it most. I got it a few days before Christmas as we had chosen and agreed it together. Husband bought me some rather glam slippers, purple iPad cover, L'Occitaine face cream which I had asked for, and a lovely bracelet. Oh I also got a new fountain pen which I was pleased with as I have lost the one I got a couple of years ago. Kids bought us £300 vouchers for a murder mystery weekend away which we wanted, a travel book, M&S vouchers which they know we like as husband goes in the one at the terminal if we want to have a special meal at home and don't fancy cooking properly. I also got some lovely kitchen scales which don't sound very festive but they are silver glass and very, very pretty (I know I am easily pleased!). I didn't actually ask for them but was going through a catalogue at dils one day and mentioned how lovely they were. We also got a bottle of lovely (and expensive) sloe gin which we haven't opened yet. Nobody buys us wine or fizz because they know I am in a wine club and pay an amount monthly and then fill up my (rather large) wine rack. They also do not buy chocolate gifts at my request. I do like chocolate but once I start I cannot stop and then the gremlins will come and sew the hems of my clothes closer together and I will feel depressed 😩

The children were over the moon with their presents thank goodness!

We had agreed not to do adult-to-adult presents this year, so OH and I felt really lost not shopping for our sons and DILs, but an agreement is an agreement - and we stuck to it.

The sons and DILs didn't stick to it, much to our embarrassment!

I got a cute mug - 'Grandma's caravan mug' and ditto for Grandad, a beautiful calendar, delicious chutneys, silly Christmas jumpers - mentioned elsewhere. They are really warm and cosy but I think I'd feel a bit weird wearing a jumper with a big red nosed reindeer all over my chest in the middle of January! Beautiful soft bamboo socks, chocolates, luxury biscuits, a satsuma (carefully wrapped!) flowers and a book. OH also got a bottle of incredibly expensive wine from DS1 - supposedly for doing some DIY for them a few weeks ago. We'll have to plan a special meal to make the most of it. Remind me not to stick to any 'no present' rule next year, but they made the point that we do a lot of free childcare and give other help. Don't they know that's what grandparents are for, bless them. It is nice that they appreciate us.

Mimi - I got no soap or smellies! (They know I'm allergic to lots of products so I always buy my own)

OH and I are going to treat ourselves to new electric toothbrushes when we go shopping - there isn't anything else we want, and we are going to have some work done on the house shortly so don't really want to splash out on things we don't need.


Mamma-mia - I'm so sorry to hear you've been poorly. I hope the New Year will see you fully recovered and fighting fit. xx

Aggie - your ½ cwt bag of potatoes reminds me that I asked for, and got, a Mantis tiller for the allotment for my 70th birthday! I love Catherine Kitson designs.

Daisy, I got a Stihl petrol strimmer for my 60th.😆
No adult presents costing more than a fiver by order, here. The GCs gave me exotic veg seeds and some basics, all very pleasing. DDs gave me a special tin to put them in and a book on things to make with cat hair! Yes, cat hair...they thought it was funny but you really can make little things by using the felting method. My cat is not particularly hairy but DD 2s is. We have postponed presents with my brothers until later in the year (also £5 or less, make it or buy from a charity shop) as we were unable to meet up due to circumstances beyond our control. I may have Christmas in August, all the works but in the garden. Should be fun.

GM,,no adult presents worth more than a fiver - what a brilliant idea!
Most of us have too much anyway, and many must struggle to provide 'decent' presents if they have large families, not to mention working out what to get everyone. The cheap and fun option sounds good

I was very spoilt this year , lots of lovely gifts but the best one was a Candle holder from GS1 just a little cheap thing but he had gone out on his own and bought it he even took time to find one to match my sitting room , for Grandad he bought a Best Granddad mug with a pair of socks in , They out did all our expensive presents 😀
