MIL bought a goose one year not realising how much fat comes out. First she had to clear up a greasy flood of the stuff and then keep emptying a tray put underneath to catch it. Then found there was not much meat so we only had a tiny portion each! Strangely enough this was the first and last Christmas goose.

Just us Christmas Day but will need lots of veg as we seem to have a tradition of bubble and squeak cooked in goose fat on Boxing Day. I also have to include apple crumble as a pud. Didn't do one a couple of years ago and DD1 had a real melt down which was completely out of character and probably surprised her as much as it surprised us!

Turkey crown for us and Christmas pud for OH and me. The others will probably have some "nice"ice cream. One of my DS s is partial to Black Forest Gateau which he has several hours after the main course. Do your family/ guests like Yorkshire puds with their festive meal? Mine do.

We love Yorkshire puds, but have never had them on Christmas Day Clover!

Since DD2 moved to Leeds we have Yorkshires with every roast whereas it used to be roast beef only.

We only ever had Yorkshire puds with beef, but both DILs do them with any roast. This raises the expectations of the GCs, so I do them as well now - gluten- and dairy-free, of course.

We are off to DD1 for the main event armed with turkey, pud, sausage meat etc. We only live 10 minutes away in the car so we can cook the meat here. Yorkies will feature as the children love them, as will a huge bowl of apple sauce which we all enjoy with turkey since OH introduced us to the combination many years ago. Pud or ice cream to follow.

My OH's family slice up left over Christmas pudding and fry it in butter. Totally decadent but delicious!

I have no shame - I will happily eat Christmas pud leftovers cold from the fridge like a slice of cake. In fact I did one last night with custard and have had a slice of the leftovers tonight. Yum, yum.

GD2 will be appalled if there are no yorkshires at the restaurant on Christmas day, but as its a carvery with beef and pork on the menu as well as turkey, Im pretty sure there will be.

My neighbours mum apparently likes corn so I will do corn as well. She is cross with me as she said she would bring stuff along and I have ordered or got it all already. Told her to bring some booze along (although we also have loads of that). I cannot be waiting until the last minute. Need to know that I have everything! My neighbour knows about my panic attack and has offered to take me shopping if I don't feel up to it (I was a bit afraid of driving over the weekend at least on my own) and also to take husband to work Christmas morning (4am!) which I cannot let her do but it is a kind thought anyway.

I have had a FaceTime conversation with Joe who would like me to get some cookie dough ice cream, I just got salted caramel for him because that was his choice for his sleepover last weekend. I am not a great flavoured ice cream eater and I don't really want to be stuck with two tubs of expensive ice cream languishing in my freezer when I need the space. I might "forget" to buy it. They won't be here again for at least another month as they come here in the 27th for family Christmas and then fly off to Portugal to see the maternal grandparents until 2nd January.

On 27th we will have a lunch buffet with cheeses, mini quiches, salad, pate, olives etc. We will make a big chocolate cake for dessert with a ganache icing. They will all come around 11am and probably be gone by 3.30. I only have husbands last gift of smellies to buy now and everything is done. Oh and I bought some McCain "Gorgeous" chips which do not come in big quantities but they really are rather nice so I am going to get some of those too.

We are happily walking to the Ivy which is the local pub/restaurant in the village We booked this once we knew we were going to live here in early autumn. So the full caboodle for us, roast turkey, etc. A bottle of wine then home after a long walk.

Usually go to DD's for Christmas Day as SIL does the cooking but really don't want to spend yet another Christmas Day with my EX

Boxing Day is special as they all come over to us for opening gifts and I put out a cold spread a good feast with lovely desserts too.

Trouble is I think DD is feeling sorry for her father being alone all day and so is hinting I should invite him. Sigh.

Honestly, if I wanted to spend every Christmas with my EX I would not have divorced him!

In the New Year, early, Arthur's family all come up with granddaughters etc., so the same applies, a big spread for them too.

Elisi - there's no easy answer to the conundrum of Ex-s is there! We are going to DIL2's mother's and I don't know if DIL's dad will also be there or not! They are are good terms with each other, and have both been to ours for Christmas previously, but it's a bit different in her house I think. You will have a lovely relaxed meal at your 'local' and I'm sure you could do with the break after moving etc. xx
