Probably trying to get everyone into the Christmas spirit, hoping they will buy things.

It is crazy, in JL they have fireworks, Halloween and Christmas.

Plant - I agree it's crazy. When we were children we anticipated the exciting events of the year one by one - Bonfire Night (Halloween wasn't marked at all), Christmas, Easter, Whitsun, August Bank Holiday and August Wakes week. Each one brought its own delights.

I don't know if other grannies agree with me, but I think we've lost some of the magic by over-commercialisation. This is part of the reason why I'm such a miserable old humbug about starting Christmas in August!

Our garden centre has had all the trees, lights, decs etc in there for the last 2 weeks at least!! I love Christmas but I refuse to look at them until the middle of November very hard as the place is crammed.

Everything seems to get earlier, there will be easter eggs and decorations as soon as the new year is here!

Saw a display like this in our local pub in AUGUST! I actually went back to double check as I thought I might have been mistaken.
