Plant - I agree it's crazy. When we were children we anticipated the exciting events of the year one by one - Bonfire Night (Halloween wasn't marked at all), Christmas, Easter, Whitsun, August Bank Holiday and August Wakes week. Each one brought its own delights.
I don't know if other grannies agree with me, but I think we've lost some of the magic by over-commercialisation. This is part of the reason why I'm such a miserable old humbug about starting Christmas in August!"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "
