    Christmas Eve tasks

A few days ago I had a friend round for coffee and mince pies. Whilst we were chatting she reminded me that we both used to make our mince pies on the 24th. She is quite right, we did! We wondered why we did, when in those days we had small children, and tons of other tasks to achieve!
Like me she now makes ahead and freezes. I can remember many years when I was still wrapping last minute Santa presents on Christmas Eve.

Today, with no children to look after and only 3 of us to cater for tomorrow, I have few tasks outstanding.

I iced the cake this morning, and am baking a ham. OH and I have dusted and hoovered, and I steamed the hard floors. That is it.

Do you have specific jobs which you do on 24th? Are you all done and dusted by now - or chasing your tail with last minute preparations?!

We took Ben out this morning to "Ten Pin" which is a bowling place with kids games arcade. Tell you what he went on a driving game and I would be reluctant to get into a car with him when he gets older, scary even though it is only a video game. Then we went for lunch. Me "OK where shall we go for a healthy lunch" granddad "Burger King does chicken salad" off we went and of course he didn't have a chicken salad. He did however tell me that when he and granddad go out together and granddad promises me they will eat a healthy lunch they never do, they always go to KFC or a burger place (I knew that anyway). After lunch we went back to the arcade. One bankruptcy later we returned him to parents........

On the way home I did the very last thing I needed to do, get some extra crackers and fizzy water. Now we are home, all gifts taken out of the loft and wine, cheese etc. In a box ready to take tomorrow. Now I am going to have a deep bubble bath, wash my hair, tidy around so I don't have to do it tomorrow and rest. I am practically deaf from the arcade as well as broke. I am also by tired......
If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together

I am doing nothing, sorry ladies. Mind I have fed lots on Christmas Days in the past. Two of my GC, the Physio and the student are preparing all the veg next door. I have just had some lovely local beer from the barrel which was fetched this morning, SIL has carried on the tradition my OH used to do and he even used John's little silver tankard to try it, bless him. We are here 8 of us tomorrow and on Boxing Day at DS and DIL's house for a curry feast in their new kitchen. Panto on Monday with DD. Have a lovely weekend with your family and friends and keep healthy.xxxxxxx

All done here. Had youngest son here this afternoon, with his partner and her daughter. Casey, who is 8, is usually allowed to stay up a bit later when there isn't any school, but she said she is going to bed early tonight.

The job I always do on Christmas Eve is to set the table for Christmas dinner. And make sure I've got some fresh flowers in the house.

This year, I've taken the view that none of our family have great eyesight, or aren't very observant, so there's been a minimum of dusting. OH says he'll run the sucky uppy thingy round first thing tomorrow.
