Yesterday I went over to my eldest daughters house, to see their Christmas tree,and to have tea. At 4.30, she my 3 year old grandson and I went to an event from his nursery. It was 10 minutes drive away, and called 'nursery carols and meet santa'. We fondly imagined this would be an indoor event. Firstly because being outside, in the dark, with pre schoolers doesn't seem the best idea, secondly because there was a strict limit of 2 adults per family.
We arrived at the place ( not nursery, but a woodland setting just along the road, which has holiday lodges) We parked and a man put us in the right direction. We had to Follow The Tinsel tied to trees to lead us through the woods. This is easier said than done in the dark LOL. Eventually we arrived at a welcoming brightly lit lodge. We could see a tall Christmas tree inside. Were we to enjoy the warmth and colour? Sadly not!
No parents really seemed to know what to expect, but it transpired we were to eventually sing around a tree. This was an unlit tree with baubles. But it was dark, so we couldn't really see the baubles! No actual carols were sung,just Christmas songs. We waited a long time for this to begin. It was very cute to see GS acting out a couple of of the songs however.
Then Santa arrived . The poor guy was given a seat to sit on outside the building! Each childs name was called out, and they received a present from a very nice Santa. Most of the time the little boys ran about madly in the dark, slipping and falling in the mud. We had a hard time keeping track of them in the dark!!!
Not the nursery's best thought out event. Why we were limited to 2 adults is still a puzzle. I have to say GS thoroughly enjoyed racing around in the dark with his friends however
Despite the mild winter we are having, it was very cold out there, and we were glad to be back in the warm car, then back at DDs for a warming casserole
